Telematic Update Problems
Telematic Update Problems
I asked for the update and the SA says if it locks up during the update and cant be reloaded I will have to buy a new Command unit for $8000.00 .. That sure sounds like BS to me. Is there a known problem with the updating process?

This thread made me not feel so alone. My 2007 needs updating. Two months ago or more, I went to my servicing dealer and the SA flat out told me they ddn't like to do it, because "things can go wrong." I admit, I found that incredulous. I pressed. He pushed back. I drove away. These posts gave me confidence to tell him I want it done and if he doesn't, I will go up the line and if he does, his stealership is responsible. Thanks for the confidence builder.
I have a copy of the DTB sheet that I gave to him, and it was the retard manual for someone attempting to act like they were being confused.
PM me, and I will certainly send you the bulletin that got me my update. This is rather easy, and you should only pay for one hour of labor. It cost me $110 and it was the best thing to happen to my car besides my rims!

BTW: I have done numerous telematics updates, and have never had a problem...it just takes a long *** time for the software to download.
Went back to dealer today. I talked with the Serv. mgr. this time. He said there was confusion about what I wanted. I told him I wanted to be able to play DVD's and wanted the birds eye view on the Nav. He said OH! Thats no big deal. we will do it right now. 2.5 hrs later I am still in the customer lounge and the SA tells me the upgrade software they have will not work with thier SDS they were on phone with tech support and they will have to order a update and I can come back and they will try again. I should come next trip to the city and they will do it then. It should take a hour or so.. My how the world changed!
I find it hard to believe. it does take a long time though because it upgrades every module. I just did a friends vehicle 2 weeks ago... with no problems at all, and I have done alot of those upgrades... alot...
If you are ever in need of a good dealership in the Cleveland Ohio area, I have some good contacts their... not to mention the owner is completely great to anyones needs... I have acted middle man for them before and actually showed them how to do a lot on the MB's

Didn't you get the manual amendment that explains the differences? Attached the Euro copy, a bit different because Video was supported already before the update.

I was told that installing the map update disk will require the dealer to have the lastest Telematic update. I did this maps update with the dealer and have birds eye, dvd movies (in park) and now real time traffic indicator on the nav map...
Which dealer did you go to.And did they just update the nav disk? Please give me info because I want to be able to watch DVD's and have a better looking map. Thanks
First, Nav vs Telematics update, which one gives me birds eye? What are the differences?
I really want to do the telematics update because I want to stop the "Dont Forget key chime," and want to be able to do the presets on the keypad, but with an very early 07 S550 (3/06) is it risky? Do I have a chance of having to pay 8k for a new nav? Or is the only thing faulty in that scenario the dealer?
I'm going to be going to MB of Huntington or Rallye, if anyone knows these dealers which one would you recommend for the big update?

Telematics update will not fix the key chime, you need to have the IC update done. The telematics update will allow you to use the presets on the keypad. The age of the car does not matter. The $8000 estimate is the most absurd crock of poo heard around here in a long time. If the moron at the dealer is so uncomfortable working on cars they should stick to flipping burgers. Does that dealer also warn that if they ruin an engine during an oil change that you will have to buy a $25,000 engine?
Do a search on the topics, it has been discussed to death....
