Star Diagnosis System (SDS) vs Lowering links vs lowering module
Hey guys,
I'm new to the MB world but not new to the modding game. Just bought my 2007 S550, Vossen 22s are coming in tomorrow. I'd like to lower it a bit to fill in the gap I don't want to slam it as low as it can go. The wife love the car and drives it more than I do. I've seen a couple threads on the subject but they are old as of 09. AGain, I dont want to slam it. I have an Idea of what I want to do but just want you guys that's been doing this for a minute/while to give a new brother a little advice. I leaning toward the SDS but the Ghost links get my attention since they are adjustable while on the vehicle and cheaper. Thoughts? Thanks
1. SDS: My MB Dealer in San Antonio said they would lower it for about $240 - $300 using the system. Nothing mechanical to replace.
2. Lowering links:
a. Air adjustable ride: Lowering links for about 300.00 but yes, have to install them my self or a place to do it for about 250.00, my price quote.

b. Ghost links: Has the identical ends as the OEM Links, can be adjusted while on the vehicle. $225.00

I would get the links. It took me about 30mn to install. And better yet,it let you adjust to any height you wish. If a shop has a lift,it would take them less than 15mn to do the install.

The problem is. Believe it or not. I haven't found a shop around San Antonio who has a clue about the links or what to do about them. Each shop I call said they won't touch it. But there is one in Houston though, 3 hrs away that installs the Adjustable links. With that said, what do think of the Ghost links compared to the Air ride.

I've never had any experience with anything besides the links. Put it this way,the links are identical to the Lorinser links. The adjustableairride.com links come with detailed instructions for you to follow.it's really easy to do.don't waste $200+ for a shop to do the install.

My drop is like Phatify, hardly mild, in fact I think its the lowest I can get with the tires I'm running now so I used links as well; easy DIY job. However like my first post if a slight drop is what you want then go with the SDS.

I have lowered with SDS and the only problem I see with that is my tires are eating on the inside. is there any camber adjustment kit for w221?

Get the links its a 20/30min install, really cant be mounted incorrectly plus if you feel the car is to high or low then you can easily adjust the hight..
In order to install them you just jack up the car dont even need to remove the wheels..
If you check the adjustable airride homepage the installation guide is available online
You can buy the same links on the german ebay for 100euro i did that for mine, if you want a link to the seller just let me know;-)

Ok, so I did it!! I decided to go with the Adjustable Air ride links, just ordered tonight, gonna install myself. Seems fairly easy with install pics and instructions from the site. Thanks for all the help and advice. As a good measuring technique, I heard measure from the floor to the top of the wheel well is a good way to measure exactly how low you go. Any other techniques/advice for the install would be greatly appreciated. Since I'm running 22s I'd like to lower 1 inch all the way around.

What I did was adjust all the new links to oem length and measure how low i want to go from there. I have mine lower in the front 1/4in lower than the rear.

I just purchased an 07' S550 also and I went with
The ghost links had them installed today by GHOSTMOTORSPORTS in L.A.. The stance of the car is perfect and as stated above is fully adjustable.. I just registered to the forum and am posting off my iphone but will upload pics once I get back home..

Did you roll your fenders? I'm thinking bout lowering my car a little more.. An want to know if fender rolling is going to be necessary..

The front is no problem.the rear,if you look at the edge/corner of the bumper you can see a metal tab that sticks out.you can either bend it or cut it flat like what I did.no fender rolling was involved. My rear wheel are 22x10.5 w/295/25/22 tires. If your tires are 285's you might get away w/out any rubbing also depending on the wheel offset?

Its a good thing to cut the tap.. And remember to put some paint on it afterwards...
Offset 40 on a 10.5" inch rear fits perfect and then make the links as short as possible rear then its a perfect look :-)
