Gear transition vibration/noise (anyone else experienced this?)
Just curious to see if anyone else has had this problem or if this is common and what the issue/resolution might be before calling MB service.
My 2007 S550 4M w/ 40K miles went in for normal service about 2 months ago. Felt good for a couple weeks but then i started feeling a harder throttle when entering the new gear, more noticeable at around 40mph and again at around 60. In the new gear on the lower end I can feel a stronger vibration in the acceleration pedal and steering wheel and slightly more noticeable/louder engine sound. As the gear gets mid range the vibration/sound subside.
This occurs more when I am easing into the each gear change, meaning light on the accelerator which I mostly am because I drive in a lot of traffic.
To be clear there is no skip or jerk between gears, just an annoying vibration and noise that I wouldn't expect from this car. I'm not sure if I chalk this up to the car getting older and that's just how it is? I'm fearful that MB service will say their typical thing that the car is driving normal!
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Learned via this forum of motor mount issues. Out of warr. Went to indie. The original mounts had literally squished down. He replaced both mounts and issues (vibration and "shudder") went away. May not be your issue, but bad mounts are not, it appears, an isolated occurence. It's sure worthy of pursuing. Good luck!
