UPDATE-
Got promt email from General Manager,Stefan Wilhelmy. Sent pics to verify install and went through troubleshoot steps, still no go. But impressed with the service so far. Will advise as this develops. See pics attached...

By the way, have a small jewelers or eyeglass repair screwderver as this requires careful prying of plugs and swapping of plugs/wires that are very small! Not too difficult, but take install slow and steady...

Ohh Boy!! SECOND UPDATE---

Started car this morning and every warning light went on including some serious ones I'd never heard of!!

I removed the unit and all wiring and carefully returned it to stock. All is well, EXCEPT, every time I turn on the car it says "ASSYST PLUS ERROR, PLEASE RE ENTER" I'm not too concerned with this as I think it can be re set, but I just had a HUGE SCARE and I think I'm going to return the unit for refund...

And of course, this made me late to the office...

I might have just had an unlucky experience, but I think I'm going to stick with installers and their products, so if something goes wrong I can have them fix it!

Wow guys this sucks, I was all set to order it. I am still in battle with my Westwood, Mass. MB dealership SA about doing my telematics update, she insisted it was done, and I don't need further update because they can't duplicate the problem that I told them. I even willing to pay for the service. I checked with the SA at Viti MB in Rhode Island, and they gave me the same runaround. Any recommendations?

Is this the update to get birds eye view and DVD play? Try Smith Mercedes in Haverhill, MA. They are very good.

Final update...

GREAT SUPPORT! However I think I will not pursue it and get a refund...
Here's the email today, which I think is fair, but I can't go through the process...
Hi Eric,
thanks for the pics and detailed description. I'm afraid some "update" in your system killed the module functionality. But don't worry, it can be fixed.
2 Questions. Where are you located and do you have a 3G modem for your laptop?

I'm asking because we can do a remote session. Our m4cconnect software allows me to have you connect to our server and send me live data from the car
and also allow me to update the module over the air. The 3G is needed in this case because (unless you are local and can come to our lab) we can talk
over the phone while the module is connected and I can have you start and stop the car and analyze the data.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience. The problem really is that the car manufacturers constantly change things and offer no information whatsoever. So all we can
do is reverse-engineer it and make it work again.
Best Regards,

Stefan Wilhelmy

Yes! Full refund. They couldn't have been nicer. I even got a call from the inventor of the unit! Great support. It might have just been a defect or something particular with my car... And the error message I was having after removal has since cleared...

If you've ordered one, try it out or have an installer do it... It definitely works for many people.

So do you know if it's just a defective unit or something else? I'm willing to take a shot at installing the unit, but at the same time don't want to. Has this problem occur before on the W221 or was this the first time?

I personally think it was either a defective unit or something unique to my car... They did say I was the only report of a bad unit with the W221, AND the blinking LED indicating correct install...

I really have to say the support is GREAT and they really stand behind their product! Got this final email today:
______________________________________________

Ok thanks for the reply. That's what I thought. I heard from other US customers (where the module works) that their cars did exactly the same in factory condition.
Playback when parked and brake on... hmmm... OK well... Since you were the only one reporting a non working module with the W221, I don't have any other ways to test now and will
just assume the module is OK. If the module were defective, the LED would not blink. I have never seen a module that blinks and is defective. That is because the LED only blinks with every
correct data packet received from the COMAND system. So this tells me that the power and CAN wires were connected and the module did "see" the correct data. Why it wasn't working or
why you got all these errors will remain a mystery to me.

Please be so kind and talk to your dealer about the return/refund what he is planning to do. If he is planning to mail the module to me anyway to have it checked, we can save a shipping leg
and you can mail it directly to me at

mods4cars USA

Please tell him that I offered to check the module and return it to him once I figure out if it's ok or needs to be repaired/replaced.

Thanks and Happy Holidays !

I would say, give it a shot and try... Allow lots of time, or take it to an installer. If you do yourself, have a small jewelers screwdriver set to manipulate the plugs. In the panel, the blue plugs have these little tabs that you can press to the side (when looking down on them) to unplug the wires from the panel. To get the leads out of the OEM plug, you have to insert same tiny screwdriver to get the leads out (there are little metal tabs to depress from the lead you can see in the blue OEM plug). I think the hardest part here is that you are swapping OEM plug with kit plug and vice versa. This requires patience so that nothing is broken in the process. If you don't have a work area (like a well lit, warm garage), take it to an installer. This should not be done outside in the driveway or curbside! Too many little things to manipulate and its freezing out here in the northeast!

Thanks Eric for the updates and info. I guess I'll give it a try,and if mine don't work, then we know something is defiantly wrong with the the units for the W221.

Let me know as well. I was going to order it, but will wait to see if you had the same results.

Something wrong with your car? lol ok... Stick to mid city who actually make sure things are working before testing on customer vehicles. Why do you think they are willing to work so well with you? They need to troubleshoot the problems and don't be duped into the "you are the only one with this problem"

With the warning lights the car was throwing I wouldn't say it's safe to try. The product looks like it's cutting into wires as well, but I am not sure I am sure you know. Just be careful guys

Mine did not throw any error lights. The module blinks its led light showing all connection is correct, but I still need to activate the parking brake to view video?
