Help! After Lowering Links Install, Rear Shocks Dont Turn On!
Hey Guys.. I need a hand.
I installed the adjustable lowering links last night along with a new set of 22's on a 08 s550. The install went fairly smooth the only issue was getting the rear stock rod off of the stationary mount.
I made the fronts approx 7mm longer than stock and I made the rear approx 7mm shorter than stock. After getting teh car back into testing form. I took it for a drive only to notice the rear wheels rubbing. After pulling back into the driveway I was shocked to see the rear wheels were absolutely tucked!
I figured i shortened the rod too much, so i got under and adjusted it out a lot, just to see. Well, turns out that did nothing. There is no action coming from the rear shocks at all. They arent reacting to anything.
Anyone have the same issue, or have any idea why the rears aren't responding? Also when i try to raise the car, the car doesn't react to that either!
Thanks in advance
Jon

That is strange. That also happens to me when I made the adjustments too low. But the car did rise up once the button was pushed to have the car raise up. Have you tried putting the old rear links back on,and see what happen?

By the way. If you have 22's on. Make sure you either bend,or cut the metal tab near the bumper and quarter panel meets. Everyone that has 22's on get rubbing issue due to that tab.

I have not tried installing the stock ones but i did adjust the the aftermarket ones to stock length and it didn't respond.
And thanks for the tip on the bending the tab. At this point I think its rubbing for other issues

Ok. I know exactly why the sensor is not working. Because I did the same thing, now that I thought about it. Make sure the sensor arm is facing the right way. I don't kno how to explain it..? The pivot point of the sensor... I had it facing the wrong direction and it didn't do a thing also. So just flip it around and that would solve your problem. Sorry,I don't know how to explain it.

I'll take another look this evening and see if i can understand what you mean.

Well what I'm trying to say,is try to swing the sensor pivot arm the opposite direction. Because if you look at the sensor. You can see that the arm can swing either way. Sounds like you just have it the wrong way.

No. The sensor arm does not rotate a full 360 turn. If u look where the rod is connected. If it's facing towards the front of the car, then take off the link connecting point to the sensor. And swing the sensor arm the opposite direction(facing rear). Then make the connection? Does that make sense?

Does your S-Class have ABC suspension, where you would have two rods in the back?
I dont have any way to verify voltage in that sensor so i tried the arm 180 degrees clock wise and then counter clockwise to see if it would do anything and doesnt respond.
The stock links are back on and I am assuming at this point it is a fault in the computer (even though there are no check engine lights) and that the suspension is in some sort of limp mode.

I just went over the install manual for the links. And it said (rear sensor) "make sure the sensor arm is pointing UP". You might want to double check that. I had mine pointing down, and my car was stuck like your's. Once you have it pointing up,you need to hit the button to reset the air struts.

Ok, i think I know what you mean. I drew a picture, so you can visualize the same thing i am. Picture A is how it is right now. I think you want it to be like picture B. Correct?

this is a very good post. I just got a s550 recently and if you don't mind me chiming in i have a question.
So im interested in the ghost links. My car is still under warranty. How do you deal with taking your car to the dealerships (assuming you're still under warranty)?
Do you take off the new links before bringing your car to service?
Thanks

phatisfy,
I take you have ghostlinks on your s550 i white (assuming that is yours)?
How does the suspension ride? I have a wife and 2 small kids and I want to know if they will feel it...it's important that my car is not bouncy like any other dropped vehicle.
Thanks for the input.
