S550 4matic LE
need some opinions on what to do with our 07 s550

So we want to sell our 2007 S550. The dealer gave a price of $37k, which is so sad how low the value drops of these cars, but actually is in line with a KBB value. It has about 50k miles, it was the 4matic special edition version, the one with the designo paint and two tone interior.

Anyway, looking into getting the redesigned S in a year or two, but also considering waiting for the redesigned Maserati Quattroporte whenever that may be. So need an in between car. Considering a E350/550 lease, maybe can work a 2 year lease from the dealer.

What do you think, hold out another possible 2 years? I am a little tired of this car and like change. The value has dropped so much already too...

Thanks!

I don't see the point. You're going to get an inferior vehicle, when your current one has already greatly depreciated.

Unless your car is a reliability disaster, I'd say keep it for 2 more years, then get whatever you want.

I say, if you can get out of your S without taking a financial beating; Run! The S class will only continue to lose value as the years add up and watch out for the 5 year reliability Blues.

There are variables not presented herein that would pay a role into the analysis. Like, whether the car is already paid off, or whether a payment is still in effect. If the former is the case, your key figure is ($37,000-$xx,xxx/24mo, which is your cost per month if you keep the car. xx,xxx is the amount you would expect to get for the S two years from now. If this monthly amount is less than the price of a lease you are considering for another vehicle, then financially it would make sense to keep your S. If the S is still being paid, then the analysis gets a bit more complicated, so I am not getting into it, since based on what you say, it sounds like the car is paid or close to getting paid off. Hope it helps.

This is why MB needs to work on reliability and the cost of maintaining these vehicles when they are 4-7 years old. If they incur repairs that amount to a significant percentage of the vehicle's worth around that time, few will want these and it will continue to kill the resale value...

Having said that your car is only a 2007. If I were you, I'd get a 2 year warranty upgrade and keep your car until the new redesign comes out. You have already paid the cost of high depreciation... I currently have an E550 and would like to consider a S550 in a few years but I imagine it would be a lot harder consider the reverse...

Enjoy your car!

Maserati? please don"t do it to yourself. My buddy has an 08 Quattroporte and he spends half his lifetime at the dealer fixing one thing or the other.

If you're concerned about depreciation, then why consider the Maserati, that's the one car that depreciates even more than the S-class

S class
You have already taken the majority of the depreciation hit. The longer you keep it the cheaper it is (as long as you don't have any major repairs out of warranty). Buy the extended insurance and keep the car. Good luck.

+1 our biggest nightmare also..

I'd stick with the car if you're willing to maintain; otherwise maybe a swap-a-lease on something?
