Depends on the day...
27 MPG

Put cruise on 80 and drove from Pensacola Florida (150 foot elevation) to North Carolina (3,500 foot elevation), a total of 450 miles. Average fuel economy was 27.5 mpg. I am ecstatic!

Congratulations. The 5.5 liter is a real economy car when driven at a consistent pace on the freeway. I drove a little slower (60mph) and got 16% more, or 32 mpg from NC to Nashville, TN in my previous S550.

Not bad at all...assuming it wasn't the hybrid.I wonder what the Bluetec will do on the Interstate.Mine gets up into the low 40's (per the computer, that is) so the S Class would likely get up into the mid 30's,if not better.

I can even get 28mpg on my 2010 Bluetec GL. Not as good as the E but respectable for a heavy 7-passenger SUV.

A Mercedes obviously!
Have you tried doing a proper calculation though, rather than relying on the computer? I had a 700 mile drive the other week and according to the trip computer I averaged about 23mpg+ from my 600. But when I filled up and got my phone out it was more like 20.5

I'll do that next time I’ve got any appreciable distance to travel and we'll see. Thanks for the input...

These cars are amazing on the highway. I get 27mpg in the CLS on roadtrips, and a little over 25 in the S550. Pretty damn well for such heavy cars with decent power.

I average 28MPG, one full tank with a few gallons to spare when I got home from Irvine, CA to San Jose. Non-stop drive. 80MPH speed.
