Trading up. What model year to get 07 or 08?
Hi everyone,
Im currently in a 2001 S430. This car has been relatively good for me with some issues along the way, but overall I was pleased.
I needed advice on which model year I should purchase. I am looking at a 2007 S550 or a 2008 S450.
What would you recommend, and would you recommend getting something that has over 100,000kms (63,000miles).
Also does the 07 or 08 model year have any serious issues? The older W220 had many issues with air-matic, instrument cluster etc etc etc.
I just want to get a feeling from current owners which route I should take.
Any input/advice will be greatly appreaciated.

From my personal experience (we have 07 450 and 08 500) the 08 is better, as well as 09 is better than 08. Get the latest you can. However, you may lack Nm and 48hp in S450.
W221 is generally more reliable than W220. Getting a car that has over 100,000Km shouldn't be a problem - check service history, maybe it's problem parts have been replaced already.
Anyway, try to get extended warranty just to be safe :-) or pay equally good price for the car if you won't get it.

Like Armadillo said newer is better so get the newest one you can. If I were faced with your decision however, I would opt for the 2007 S550 for the extra power. Would also highly recommend a CPO car and purchase the extended warranty. Well worth the extra up-front costs and gives you great peace of mind.

Also for the 2007 s550 there was a timing chain and sprocket issues for the engine
, replacement cost 5k
. There is another post either in the W220 or W221 posting talking about the chain. Check to make sure that the 2007 is not in that group, also it may not apply to Canada models
