I think that is a bit harsh. Everyone's experiences are different, I guess.

I think we should preface this discussion by saying that we're basically offering opinions, and that it would be pretty difficult to point to a "fact" that places one system above the other.

That said, I prefer my 2010 S550's COMAND to my 2006 BMW M5's iDrive system. But, there are many years of difference in development and technology there.

The current BMW 7-Series has a very nice system, clearly it must because there were so many complaints about the old iDrive. The BMW system offers more options in terms of the actual driving dynamics of the car than does the M-B system. However, I find that the M-B system has a better voice control interface, and therefore, it's easier to use.

I haven't lived with the BMW system, but I suspect that in time, the difference between the two would be small once you've conquered the learning curve.

I owned an 06 750li and also an 07 650i.. The 2 cars almost drove me insane, if i were to list all the problems this cars gave me ill be here forever. The bmw handles better but thats the only aspect where it beats the benz.

Had a 2006 750Li for 5 years, not a single problem. On the other hand, the iDrive was absolutely awful. Maybe it is better now, but they screwed up the interior and exterior too much for me.

beater with a heater
had a 760li as a shop demo vehicle, the idrive was pretty bad, but when the 07 S class came out I quit messing with BMW, the 2011 comand is great compared to the 2009 comand which I thought was better than idrive. I havent looked at bmw in years so if they changed it, i missed it

2011 command

ya the 2011 command is fantastic .but ive upgraded my 08 telematics to the latest one but apparently i dont have all the options that the original factory installed 2011 model has , maybe its a lack of hard ware or something i dont know what the reason is , you cant get all the 2011 capabilities just by upgrading the telematics and nav system .
