Just thought I'd chime in because I'm interested in the outcome. It was such a hassle to find the 2GB PCMCIA hard drive from our very very ancient and archaic laptop but hey it worked.

Where did you read that? It should not be any hit and miss, you just need an SD card or if you are using (bigger) SD HC cards, you need an SD HC card capable adapter. The forum is full of photos showing SD HC capable adapters.

Also if one has difficulties figuring out if the adapter supports SD HC cards, why not buy a CF adapter and a CF memory card.

PS. just a reminder, most SD cards of 2 GB or less are basic SD cards, most 4 GB and bigger are SD HC cards but there are a few exceptions of 4 GB cards.

My understanding is the 4gb SD cards which aren't SDHC rely on trickery in the file systems to work and hence may not be compatible... so wouldn't risk it unless you had one handy since they aren't easy to find nowadays since SDHC became readily available.

Thanks for that info (new to me). Even though I have a few of those 4 GB SD cards, I have not tried them in the car (I don't have the mini SD card adapter, I assume my PCMCIA adapter does not accept the mini sized card).

My TopRam 4GB SD card (Not SDHC) worked well in the MB PCMCIA to SD adapter I tried. In fact it has worked in the all the devices I have tried it in: laptops, cameras etc.

I did have problems with 4GB MiniSD cards in HTC phones, some worked, some didn't.

Anyone still with questions should check out this thread

I bought a cheap (that was the only one they had and no SD card adapters) Flash card adapter from microcenter for $6.99 and a 32GB flash card.
Transferred mp3 files and it works flawless.

PCMCIA and SDHC without problem

PCMCIA Adapter

Configuration which works fine in my car:

DELOCK PCMCIA PC.Card CardReader 33 in 1

San Disk Ultra II SDHC Card 32GB

(only 16GB of data accessable in the car, otherwise 32 GB)
