coolant leak in S600

The "add coolant" message had been coming on for months even though after a top up, they never saw a leak. Turns out after leaving the car for a pressure test, a leak was found behind the turbos. (wherever that is). Which means they have to take the engine out or apart, order parts from Germany and that'll be a few weeks.
Anyone had this issue?

Sounds like a serious repair. I too have an 07 S600 but only
30K, no real heavy duty problems. I'm second owner at 23K, but have
records of previous owner.
Did dealer give you an estimate for repairs? Hope you have extended warranty.

I do have an extended wty. through the dealer, but this is still within the 4 yr. original warranty. It would be interesting to know what it would cost though, so I'll find out and report back once it's done.

I had a leak in my left turbocharger end of last year. The whole underside of the engine, insulation, and engine mounts were coated in fluids. (No sign on my driveway though) My Early MY08 S600 was at around 25,000 miles. So tightly crammed is everything in the engine bay they had to lift the entire engine out to get to it. Not only did they repair the turbocharger but they had to replace the engine mounts as well. Your problem sounds similar to what I had. My car was in the shop for a week.

If so it sounds like a big repair - bless that warranty!

Here is a link with more details:

I vaguely recall that the cost of the repair was around $12,000.

If you need a justification for an extended warranty.. you have it!

Chris

I read the post that CJF posted about same problem last year. Couldn't understand why I hadn't read that post before then realized I was in the hospital nine days around the time it was posted. The one question that wasn't answered in that post, what caused this problem, is it something one might expect? I'll tell you right now, after reading that post and the indicated repair cost of $12000, I'm going to sell this car one year before extended warranty runs out.
Let us know what you find out.
Joe
