07 SLK55 AMG
Help me decide 08 E63 or 07 S550 4Matic

Hello,

I've owned a SLK 55 for about 4 yrs now, love the car but its too small and ride is little stiff. I guess I'm getting older (27 yrs) lol. Anyways, I'm having a hard time deciding which car to get. I test drove the E63 for about 5 minutes, it's faster and much more comfortable than the slk55. I will be test driving the 07 S550 tomorrow. I have a feeling that it just going to be a nice comfy ride with nice interior, not really fun to drive.

My question would be, in the long run (lets say 5 years) which one would have more problems and which is cheaper to maintain?

Also depreciation, I'm assuming the AMG would hold value better.

Would all the comfort, and luxury of the S class would make you want to choose it over the fun and power of the E63?

At 27 I think you would have more fun in a CLS 550. I'm on the younger side also (33), not too many up on you and will share a few things with you. I came from a BMW 745i, so keep that in mind. The S550 is a gorgeous car, so you can walk away from it knowing you have a wicked car. It handles very good for being large, it does have the get up to take off on demand, it will pull major chicks if you need it for that. A few things you can do to give it a young guy appeal, add wheels, and customize in good taste. The S if the flagship so of course maintenance will hammer you when the time comes.

Hey man,

Well actually this topic had been discussed on a parrellel M-B from someone facing the dilemma between the E63 and the S550 : he finally went for the 550 and doesn't regret his choice!

The S-Class is more comfortable there is no question about that. The 550 engine is really good (4 MATIC can be really usefull in winter) and if your not planning to feature in the next Fast and The Furious movie it's way enough powerfull for normal roads, but you cannot compare it to the E63, which is even more powerfull and much more aggressive.

The E-Class though has a reasonnable size (plus point for city, narrow parkings, etc...), it's certainly really well equiped (as same as the S-Class goes) and is better in looks.

To sum up, if your planing on having a kinda aggressive/sporty driving all the time you should go for the E, if your seeking real comfort and are not so much bothered by the size of the car you should go for the S without hestiation.
Of course the AMG would keep a better value and as far maintenance goes, perhaps the AMG model would be a bit more expansive (for the Affalterbach parts...), but appart from that, I think it would be the same.

I'll put to you in another way...

I'm not 27 years old..just turned 40..but I'm young at heart. So I am biased and will say get the s550 because i got one. I wanted an E at first but I went with their flagship and I couldn't be happier. In my opinion the S class has a certain level of prestige to it..it's their flagship ..but other times it can be portrayed to be an old man's car.

But to negate that image, put rims, fix it up tastefully like what was mentioned in this thread...plus a 27 year old driving an s class is really cool! I wish I can say that when I was 27.

If you're looking for an fast car, the s is not slow..power is there when you need it..

That's just my opinion ..like I said I'm biased ..no offense to the e class..but hey what do I know i'm single minded

If it will be driven in winter, with snow on the roads, the S550V4 might make more sense. I really like mine a lot. But I LOVE my M5. Hehe. I'm 29 years old.

I say look at a 2007 CL600 or 63 instead. Best combo of sporty and comfort. Just got a 600 and it is the best car I have ever experienced. A total sleeper with all of the depreciation done.
