S versus CL

Just asking for opinions. I am torn between the sedan and the coupe. I don't need the full back seat often and have other vehicles to accommodate passengers. I really like the thought of the diesel and MBUSA isn't likely to import the diesel CL just for me; I tend to like the looks of two doors slightly more. The two would be optioned to approximately the same price so that's not a issue. Any thoughts would be welcome.

Thanks,
Robert

I personally like the CL coupe better, but I've heard great things about the S350 BlueTEC clean diesel engine. Might not be helping too much, but I prefer the looks of the coupe.

Where did u hear of a diesel (BlueTec) CL?
It doesn't exist in EU (Europe) either...
Or did u mean CLS?

Anyway, if u don't often require the back seats, go for the CL without hesitation!

Ah, BlueEfficiency versus BlueTEC or the like. I officially revise my statement to "Mercedes Benz isn't likely to produce a CL diesel just for me". Sorry for the misinformation. Also, G550 is being considered as an option.

If you don't need the rear seats much then I think the CL is better for you.
I also think it gives a younger image if you care about that.

The USA S class is the long wheelbase version but I believe the CL is not, so you don't have such a long vehicle to maneuver and park. Maybe others can say if the ride is improved or the handling in tight corners.

I personally prefer the 3/4 rear view of the S over the CL, the curved rear window and rear pillars on the CL seem a bit awkward to me, especially in a light color paint. However I prefer the pillar-less side view of the CL, and even more with all the side windows down.

Of course both are fine choices!

Well the car is quite hype, but it has a weird combo of C (W203 facelift)and CLK (C209 facelift) class finish, which seems quite akward for the advised M-B eye lol.
Not to mention the memory seats adjustment unit which dates from the W210 E-Class (10 years backwards...).
But I guess it goes with the "rugged" style it's meant to be for.

Never driven one so I don't know how it feels like, but I would certainly not compare it with a CL : the CL is fantastic to drive and S-Class also (not the mention the great options which you don't have in the G).

BMW M850i Gran Coupe
I have had both, and as similar as they are, they are also quite different. The sedan is 8" longer, a great trunk, and makes very happy rear passengers. The coupe has horrible access to the rear and once seated, room is at a premium. Once you get past the specs, it's a matter of taste. The sedan is a sedan, basically no different in looks in any configuration from $91k to $200k. The coupe on the other hand stands out like a spaceship. I got more comments on my CL63 than I received on all my other Mercedes ever owned. IMO the CL is drop dead gorgeous and great fun to drive and own - even when parked. Get the CL and enjoy yourself.

Between the two I prefer the CL.
