New 3D Navigation View??

I just watched a fairly new commercial for the 2012 C-class. The command center shows a VERY sexy 3D nav view. They have a 1.2 second subtitle, saying "Screen images simulated". Is this an actual view on ANY 2012 model??; Or does "Screen images simulated" really mean, "Sike.....You wish you had this 3D Nav View, but Fat Chance..." I'd gladly pay for that command center update .

I think when they say they are simulated then that is what they mean. I will say that command online will possibly have google maps access which may have an overlay capability on the regular nav maps (which would give you access to the 3d building renderings that you see in Google Earth)

I don't think this would be a simple upgrade. Command Online units are different from the regular command systems.

They do have this. On my MY2011 it has the 3d view and it looks just like that.

Are the 3d renderings stored in command? or does it get pulled in from a data connection?

I believe it is from a data connection.

It's real. My S and GL don't have the 3d buildings, but my 2011 E was built in July, so it got the new COMAND version 4.5, which includes 3d maps.
These maps are stored in the COMAND unit; it does not run on internet
NOTE: These maps only come up in big cities. Where I do most of my driving, the buildings are not 3d! If I drive to downtown, then I see the 3d buildings. Also, 3d maps show mountains, so if I zoom out enough, the mountains are 3D.

Interesting. That would explain the larger hard drive in the new generation of command.

I have this on my 2012 C. Looks great, but it's abysmal to use. The processor can't handle the 3D rendering, so the map refreshes slowly / choppy when you drive. Scrolling the map takes forever. Must turn 3D off for things to work right.

Not sure if the COMAND processor is faster in the S?

I so want this in my W221. Should be possible...The conectors are the same on them though. If I only could get the pinout on the old and new so pins could be moved.
