S600 ENGINE SUDDENLY STOPPED
I was almost home, about 0.5mile from my house with hot Thai food in the trunk. The traffic light turns green and I gently step on the accelerator, car starts to move but within 1 second the engine starts to sputter, revs go down, up , down , up, and finally the engine just quits right when I'm in the middle of the intersection. Car stops, put it in park and restart it, starts up fine...put it in drive and step on the accelerator and it drives again for about 100 yards and engine turns off. Not wanting to cause any more damage I called Mbrace and it's now (over 90 minutes after I called them) being towed to the dealership. Anyone have a similar thing happen or have any idea what it could be? I did notice the transmission light come on, but it seemed to be more engine related as the engine would quit even when the transmission was in Park.
I had actually just gotten the car back from the dealership 1 week ago for several minor issues. One was a power steering reservoir filter problem that caused a whining noise. Being very skeptical of the dealership I'm wondering if they did anything that might have caused this. I've owned Mercedes cars all my life, many much older high mileage models and none of them had ever just totally quit on me.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hopefully this is not the case, but it is somewhat likely that it is your transmission. I also have a 2007 S600 that had the transmission go out at 15,000 miles. I had purchased the car used with low mileage and all prelim work I had completed before purchasing the car showed no issues with transmission or engine. My issue occured about 7,000 miles and 1.5 years after I purchased it. My experience mirrors yours as far as original issues that I had. In talking to the dealer when they replaced my transmission, they have had more than a fair share of transmission issues on 2007 S600 as they only charged me labor for my repair, even though it was out of warranty for over 8 months. The rebuilt transmission at a cost of over $6,000 was covered by the dealership. Let us know what they said.
