Differential problem, possibly transmission

I have an 07 S550 4matic which just crossed over 66k, it has been a phenomenal car except for today. I was driving today and then suddly my car came to a screeching hault, I turned it off started it up, and pulled it off the road.

I had it towed to the nearest mechanic shop were they told me the transmission was bad, but I felt like the car still had a good transmission so I took it to a Mercedes mechanic and we put it on the lift and he said the front differential is bad on the car and showed me that it had a leak, and he assumes that all the fluid leaked out and caused the problem.

So I have two questions do you think my tranmission might be bad also?
And where can I get a front diff for under $2500, or is it interchangeable with other benz models?

Thanks!

Although EPC lists current part # as 2213308700 it is actually 2213307801. Part replacement is normally based on varying factors - modification, remanufacture only status (no longer available new), and/or vendor/supplier change. IMHO always best to use current part # shopping new, current or direct preceding # shopping used.
