I should not comment because I'm not familiar with the US options but if it is the pre-facelift model, you would need a phone with a cradle that physically connects to the UHI/MHI connector. I'm not sure if these exist for any phone that is available in the US.
In Europe we have quite a few phones with this option plus the bluetooth SAP device that also allows reading and writing (writing only when the car is stationary) SMS messages even if the phone is BT connected.

The option at Comand indicates that the head unit has that capability but it does not turn active before the proper interface is in place.
