How to get behind instrument cluster

Hi,

anyone know how to get behind the instrument cluster in the W221?

My father would love it if I disconnected the seat belt/"don't forget your key" chime, probably the two most annoying things about the car. I can hear the chimer so closely in there and am thinking that i can get to it if I pop off the leather stitched cover on the dashboard.

Any input would be great!

You would have to remove the instrument cluster component, you cannot detach the top part of the dashboard.

There is no specific buzzer for the two warnings you mention. Are you sure it would be OK if all audible warnings were lost?

I would suggest to have the cluster coded differently. The seat belt warning could be coded the European way (you would not hear the noise if you buckle before the car moves 10 mph or something like that) and the KG warning most likely can be removed completely. No need to disassemble the cluster then.

You don't have to disconnect the alarm to stop the chime. I saw a device on eBay that is down size version of the seat belt latch without the brlt that you can insert into the lock and the warning system will think you had the selt belt on.

I thought he was not stupid enough to drive without the seatbelt but was more irritated about the US approach for the warning (Euro cars do not give any warning once you switch ignition on, only if you start driving). Also this would not help with the KG chime.

Yeah the KG chime is more annoying than the seat belt. Even the US models in 08 and maybe even late 07 they made it so when you open the door, the KG chimes once, on my dads its constant whenever the doors open, its very annoying. We asked the dealer if they could update it to get rid of the chime, but they said no. I figured a better solution would to just find the chimer and disconnect, hoping it was the same one for the seat belt, killing to birds with one stone.
