Grille Swap DIY Help
I have a 08 S550 w/Distronic and my bumper is ridiculously pitted. Half of it looks white because of all the rock chips and dents in the front bumper. The worst part about it is definitely the grille, which looks horrible, and with the black distronic plate that is now covered with white dust looking specks, I want to change out the grille for a new one. If I order the parts from the dealer (grille with distronic plate), would it be easy to do the swap by myself? The parts are already VERY expensive for me, and I don't want to pay the dealer to do it...or should I just leave it alone? For me, whenever I see S classes on the road, their grilles look no where as pitted as mine...
I attached a pic below; the pitting is obvious where the sun doesn't directly hit the grille (the pitting is obvious on the LEFT side). Note: This pic was taken over 30K miles ago haha!

I feel your pain....
My black E-class has the pitted bumper as well...and I am not sure if I have it repainted it will ever look the same.
I am trying hard to prevent this on my black S-class....not following too close behind other cars and especially trucks.

I'm not sure about the W221, but I did this on my W220 S500. During winter driving, a large sheet of ice flew off a large SUV driving at high speed in front of me on the highway. The ice sheet smashed into the front / front driver's side of my car and destroyed the inner black parts of the grille. It's just plastic, with more plastic on top and behind. It also broke a headlamp mount which gave me a little wobble on the driver's side headlamp when I fiddled with it. The headlamp was fixed with super glue!
The grille was ordered from the M-B dealer and I replaced it myself in my garage. Using basic tools, I think it was a 4 or 6 screw job, taking no more than 15 minutes. I had a look at my 2010 W221 with NO distronic for you because I'm a nice guy. I counted 5 hex-head screw/clip assemblies. Should be a piece of cake dude.
