Question about buying a new 2012 S

Not sure if this is the right place, but it seems as though folks have opinions...

I drove the S350 Diesel a few days ago, and it seemed to drive about the same as the S550. Is there a reason to get one over the other?

It seems that the B&O stereo is much more than the standard. is it worth the extra money?

Your questions require fairly subjective answers, so be prepared for that.

The advantage of the Diesel over the Gas engine are principally range. If your driving habits support that, then go for the diesel, because it has come a long way since diesels of the past. Personally, my driving style suits the gas engine more, so I would take the gas engine over the diesel engine in any case. I also don't care about MPG, but that's just me. Also, the new TT V-8 engine in the S550 is SWEET. It is a noticeable improvement over the "old" corporate V-8, and I can't wait to get my hands on my next Mercedes with that engine (it may be a 2013 GL550, who knows).

Again, the sound system is very subjective. Are you an audiophile? Do you truly value the approach B&O takes to mobile sound? If so, then it's for you. If not, and if you're like me and you don't care, then the "stock" sound system will probably suit you. Conversely, I had an $8k stereo upgrade to my M5, audiophile / concert-hall quality designed and engineered specifically for my car (not some booming bass setup). In that car, I love it because I drive it by myself and can do pretty much as I please. When I'm in the S-Class, I tend to have people with me so the volume is way down to permit conversation.

It's up to you man. I've given you my answers, hope they help.

Supposedly the diesel is quieter than the gas counterpart both at idle and cruising. another advantage of the diesel is the standard AWD.

Lastly, if you need a little more power out of the diesel, you can order the racechip "piggy back" tune from racechip.de which will make it even more peppy.

Unhappy

I drive a 2012 S350 daily in Boston and Providence. I traded a 11 E350 diesel and a 07 S550 for the S350. Dont let the HP numbers let u down. Its got great torque. It is a lot slower than my two tradeins, but its actually ok. I really get awesome gas mileage! This car is not comparable to the new TT V8. The new V8 is insane. But if you dont need the HP its great. But be warned, check state laws before you waste your money on splitview option. It isnt allowed in my state so the dealer disabled it!!!
