Purchasing 2007 S550

All, I am purchasing used 2007 S550 with 82000 miles on it. Can some one check the Engine serial number and let me know if I will have engine with Idler Gear issue.

I am buying car from MB dealer. One Owner, clean Carfax and I got all the service records. This car has been service at same dealer for last 5 years where I am purchasing from.

Already talked to SA at dealer ship. He told me they will do Crank shaft Solenoid replacement under recall. There is no other service needed, this car has full service history at dealer.

VIN # WDDNG71X77A104601

ENGINE NO. 273961 30 101684
TRANS NO. 722904 00 961358

Delivery date: November 2, 2006.
Purchase date: December 15, 2006

One more item, blue tooth dongle is missing and NAVI is pretty old. How much they cost to get Bluetooth gadget and updated NAVI??

Please help me here.

Not sure about the navi though...

Congrats,

There are a lot of threads with information concerning Command/Nav updates, here's a link to one. Just do a search for "W221 Command Nav update".

Konigstier, thanks for your reply.

Always W210 fan, but wanted to try S. chickened out on W220, but I feel W221 are built better.

Pulling the trigger 12 PM Today, wish me luck.

Dealer is doing Camshaft solenoid replacement under MB recall and then will apply/update Command/Telematic update for new NAVI function.

Third Party Warrenty Service

I took delivery of car today. It is running great, beautiful car. Took ride on HWY 1 along Pacific Ocean. It is fun car to drive.

I was at my Credit Union to fund the car. They are offering me 24 months, 24000 miles warranty from “Mercury Insurance Break down Coverage, Platinum” for $5000. Is it worth to purchase 3rd party warranty from Mercury for $5000 for 2 years of coverage?

Mercury Platinum warrenty pretty much covers most of the mechanical and electrical.

Is some one has used 3rd party extended warranty to cover S550 with high mileage like mine with 82000 miles?

Any feed back will be appreciated.

even if i were to yes to third party warranty, it would never be to the one you are being offered. That is a rip-off. I say skip it.

Thank you.

I have been searching for while to get right color and P2A package, finally got one. It will be nice to have AMG on it, but I am ok with this car.

One Owner and from MB Dealer with 5 years of service records is not bad.

Next week Dealer will update Command/Telematic part of purchase. SA was very polite and given me verbal history of car and sound like all the services were done on time. Let's hope MB Dealer has given me all the good information on this car and there were nothing wrong or bad thing about this car.

konigstiger, already checked the Engine Serial Number and it is clear from Idler gear issue.

I talked to SA about Transmission and service on it and found all good and regular service has been done on Transmission.

Now I need to look for some 3rd party warranty, so I can sleep good without worry about what if.

With that mileage you will not find a warranty company who is worth it for a reasonable price.
$5000 for 2 years it just makes no sense, that is $400.00 a month you are better off to pay for eventually repairs.
I bought a 2007 but with 41000 Miles and I got a a warranty 50K miles or 4 years for $3700.00 just that you can compare .
Enjoy your car and forget the warranty

Airmatic Question

This is my first car with Airmatic. May be I am learning how Airmatic suspension work.

I notice that when I start the car, the front rise little bit smoothly. It drive very smooth, like a big boat.

When I bring this boat home in garage. After I shutdown engine (Key Less Go Start/Stop button), I hear front air suspension for 5-10 second and felt it goes down little bit and I can ear sound of air/suspension.

I think it is all normal, but I just want to make sure. After 5-10 second my garage get quiet, no more sound from car.

Airmatic setting on Command are Normal Mode (No rising or off road mode)

Is this normal for car with Airmatic? No messages on Command.

I would stay away from Mercury. In the past I have found them to be unethical about paying claims. My previous car was rear ended by a vehicle with Mercury insurance. My vehicle was insured by State Farm. My vehicle was totaled. State Farm paid a fair value for it within a few days and then went after Mercury. Mercury owed me for my rental car (per the ruling of a trial court judge). Mercury offered my less than half of what the judge ordered and wanted me to sign a waiver for further claims (this was after the court ruling). I refused and the court then would periodically order the driver jailed. He was ordered to make monthly payments. Each time he missed, an arrest warrant was issued.

Bottom line-- DO NOT USE MERCURY

I too have a brief hissing noise for 1 or 2 seconds (at the front-passenger side)coming from the suspension(?) right after having parked the car.

It is only audible inside my garage.(besides condensation-water popping on the exhaust on a warm day)
It stays at the same level though afaik,ie not lowering and raising.

Maybe the lowering and raising has something to do with the setting in the Comand : 'exit- and entry-aid' or whatever its called in English ??(when it raises steering wheel etc to get out of the car..)

I bought a 3 yr / 36k mile warranty from the dealer for $4k.

( keep in mind my car currently has 36k miles )

Also, my car makes the same noise in the garage ( so I hope it's normal ! )

Don't worry its just your suspension letting out a little air when you hit the lock button

Thank you for your help. Talked to Zoran today, very helpful and pleasant to work with. I will going to see him next week.

I talked to him about extended warranty, he gave me some good information on Airmatic warranty under extended warranty.

Thank you "The Godfather".

Thanks all for your feed back and help. Today finally I got quote from SB Auto Group financing/sales manager (MB Dealer), it is much better extended warranty then what I was getting from my Credit Union, also the quote from MB dealer is lower then what offer by my credit union.

2 Years, 24000 miles for $3750 with $100 deductible for each visit (Not each issue). Only exclusion is Command/NAVI. I might have to pay $250 more to get complete electronic package coverage including Command/NAVI.

I will probably go with MB dealer offering extended warranty.

2007 S 550 Black and Tan

I have determined that i can afford a 2007 S 550 with roughly 60k to 70k miles on it. I want Black and Tan, but i am confused by what i see out there? Many of the cars out there do not have a true black and tan? Also i see a car being sold through a MB dealership but it is not certified? should i be concerned about that? Does anyone have any true musts haves about this model? The wood wheel looks real nice, and i want heated seats and 4matic. Open to thoughts and suggestiosn
