Haha yes yes I know. I stereo-typed a bit but I am sure there are quite a few on here that are like that. It might have been a bit uncalled for but still, I felt the need for it. I'll admit there are some cool people on here, and overall the forum is better than the BMW one.

I hope everyone would just drop the age and money discussion. This seems to derail too many threads and turn into the usual no-win pissing contest.

So, since you already test drove an S-Class or two, I suggest to share your opinions and look for feedback from the forum. Chances are you get great input.
At least you know if a Mercedes is a fit for you or not...

Interesting thread for the comparison of the two vehicules .I think the new 7 looks slightly more slick( havent driven yet) then W221 but lets wait until the W222 comes out.
Then we have a little bit more fair comparison.. don't forget the W221 came out in 2006 and the current 7 in 2009 that is 3 years of automotive developement between the two !!
The old seven before 2009 feels more plump overall to drive etc ,then the W221 I think.
Looking forward to the op's first hand opinion about driving the w221 , whahaha...
Since I am 100 years old, I can tell you mr 750i, no money in the world can buy a you a proper respectfull attitude towards other people, no matter how old they are ,what they have got or whatever they do.
Its so easy typing away trying to impress people..

It isn't I didnt like the MB, its just the 7 felt a little more youthful. The S seems too much like an old mans car, but i like the styling(interior and exterior) better. But I love my 7's handling and sports package and all the other stuff. There are many benefits to both, but unfortunately not I have to settle for one or the other.

Well, there is a big difference in the engines between the earlier S550's and the 2012 twin turbo models. Significantly faster than the naturally aspirated one and your BMW for that matter.

It's important to remember that these cars are luxury cruisers aimed at the same demographic. So if you want road feel and more hardcore performance, I'd go for a C63 AMG.
Since I am driving a new 7 series, I can tell you that current S-class actually delivers more driving experience!
The bummer is heavier and more numb in suspension and steering.

Why do you have to settle? If you sell a tractor, you can easily afford both. TC

Talking about massage seats, the 7 series massage seats are weird; it only massages your butt. The Mercedes massage is much better, but the massage in the new Audi A8 beats them both.

Just don't care for the rest of the car...

Tractors are necessities and have any uses around the farm. They are also good tax write offs. Meanwhile with the 7 and S they would just sit all the time as during planting, harvest, and winter I will drive the f-150 or f-250. This is just a car I want to take to get groceries and run short errands.

I love our f-150! It's nothing fast and doesn't handle like an S or a 7 but it is much more useful! Being a farmer I have alot of gravel road travel, pull alot of machinery, carry tools, and just general farm work. Not to bash on S and 7 but when it comes to farming they are virtually useless..

Facelift W221s are the finest cars in their class in design wise , only down side for me is interior needs more buttons

I drove Bangle butt facelift 7 Series , it glided like dream and steering wheel was like no other I had ever driven . You just could not feel and sense the speed you were doing lol
But damn that car was still as ugly a wart lol
Only 7 Series I like is mid 90's and earlier 2000's . I forgot model name for it in BMW lingo this is how I am interested in bimmers lol

Ford F Series are giant proper trucks , I would like to own one too

hey, mr 750i, did you consider a cl-class? I ask - not because I drive one (who cares, right?) - but it will give you the autobahn cruiser luxury wrapped in a bit more sporty clothing. it is essentially a two-door s-class. it is more expensive than the s-class but more exclusive. check it out. it might fit your need. and if you can look at a 2011 or later - you will get the new twin turbo engine; it is an absolute beast. especially so in such a heavy car. very impressive power plant.

Completely agree! The bangle butt 7 series is ugly as sin. Luckily, since 2009 that is gone when they redesigned the whole car.

Today, the 5, 6 and 7 series looks pretty nice.

Mr.750I,

Get the S..you'll love it...it has the level of sophistication and status that you're looking for...

I would suggest that you get an 2010 model with the LED's headlights and LED fogs, you'll pay more but you'll have less miles and you'll less tinker with your car...

Ok digressing a little (sort of)...
To add a little comedy to this thread...I'm over 40 years old.....I still play video games....a little behind but I just finished Gears of War 2 and almost done with Resistance 3...all while doing it on my man cave / projecter displayed onto my 150" screen

Agreed!! Maybe a 2011+ for the stronger engine, but its still a boat you're driving around so don't expect a lot out of "sports" out of it, regardless of AMG.

I'm a little over half your age but you are way ahead of me in both games LOL. I play on a 50" though...

Not a huge fan of American cars(Pontiacs). Kia's dont have the status symbol I need. And could it be the new Honda's you think are striking because they look just like the C class? Hmmm...

I will admit the E66 and E65s are far from pretty. The 06-08 are much better and have a bit of class though. the 02-05 are pure ugly, not even close to a "flag-ship sedan." Tail-lights and headlights are just eww.. but I will say the 2000-2006 S class is very very ugly too. I think I am interested in CarBoxy's S class. It looks awesome and I'm hoping to get it soon.

I might be a little subjective, but I think my S550 with AMG pkg. is a lot sporty looking than the BMW 750il.

Generally, when you get bored you seem to buy another car!
