depreciation woes

After spending $150 k on a new '07 S 600, it's kind of sad seeing it worth only about a third (or a bit more). Such is life. With all cars, it's just a question of how much would you like to lose on your next car?
Then again, buying used after a few years gives you basically the same car for so much less. That's the trade off bet. new and used.
Anyone else getting tired of being reamed by depreciation??

If you have the means then it's great to buy these types of cars brand new. But after purchasing the Porsche brand new for the wife, I would prefer to buy preowned at the moment. Most folks that purchase these type of cars keep them in good condition so the cars are still a good buy.

Personally I look at this way :if I spend 10k and enjoy for 20k; its 100 percent pure profit!!

If you have the means to buy new, do it. IMO one of the best parts of buying a new car is you can get exactly what you need. Exactly the interior color, exterior color, options, etc., you want... Try finding a used car with what you want if you are picky about its features... You pay a premium for this but if you can afford it it is worth it. Plus you are covered by the original warranty that addresses pretty much just about anything that goes wrong with the car.

I know it is difficult to find used W221 with all the options and colors I liked it.

But I know the 2007 S550 that I bought did depreciated 70% from the original owner purchase price in 5 1/2 years. I am the second owner.

That's the way it is, either purchase new and get all the option we want or buy used and settle with less options, but save 70% of the price from new car.

Comes down to preference I suppose. I buy MB's used with all the options I wanted for a fraction of the price. Saved over 60K between two purchases with less than 28K miles on one, 11K on the other.
