Is it normal for the car to lower itself after parking?

Always assumed it's normal but I can't find anything about it searching on the net... it happens pretty much within seconds of parking and getting out of the car

You need to check you air suspension compressor and lining. There could be leak. My s430 had that problem month later my compressor went out completely

If it were leaking wouldn't it slowly lower itself perhaps overnight? For me, the car starts lowering a bit after parking (you can hear the hissing) and it only lasts a few seconds

Yes, but there are so many things that could be wrong with it, because its such a complicated system. For example before my compressor went out, like year or so before that, my car was raising itself overnight for some reason, i mean raising to the point where my car looked like lifted SUV, and sometime later my front shocks went out, so dealer had to replace both of them and also had to reflash the system. So the best bet for you is to go check it at the dealer

My car hisses slightly but nothing abnormal. I had front right suspension repaired when it was damage last month. As long as I had my car it hisses slightly but nothing unusual. Maybe somebody can advise me too

Unless there is a leak, the lowering levels the car and stops when level.

I had it most often driving up our driveway and the car leveled in the garage.
This always happened in the front, never in the rear.

Could you expand on what is meant by "level"?

The factory calibrates the ride height and level for each Airmatic suspension shock. When done the car will be absolutely level as defined by MB. So that the car doesn't look too low or high front/rear or left/right.

That will be the non-raised height.

Dealers do that also adjust that via Mercedes Star Diagnostic.

Re. the hissing, if I recall, the air release valve is actually part of the Airmatic compressor pump and not the individual shock. To reduce the high-pressure of a particular shock, the specific line in the distributor valve is opened to release the air via the air the compressor air release valve.

Could a weak battery lower the shocks?

When car moves it generates down force that phlls the car down. The Airmatic corrects for this and brings the car to the set level.

When you stop the car the down girce goes away and now the car raises up higher than the set level. When you stop the engine and exit the car Airmatic lowers it back down to the set level. This is totally normal and correct behavior if the system.

if you have car go down lower than normal level then you have a leak.

Car can also lower down for cold weather. Air volume goes down with colder temperature and air springs let car go down. Airmatic does not correct for this before car is back on.

I've seen mine air up after coming off the highway. Doesn't it lower itself above a certain speed? I'd say it's infrequent to air itself up when I stop at a light after exiting the highway. Could be that it raises itself before stopping other times. Or it could be a hysteresis thing where it doesn't target an exact position but a range, and if the ride height is measured to be in an acceptable range, it makes no adjustment. This is control theory 101 really...

This is normal, if the car is parked and you jack up one side up front, you will see over time, adjustment to the height of the rear of the car.

totally normal. Test it by parking on a level surface then activating the lift/raise button--if it goes quickly up and down and is level, you're good
