2008 S550 4MATIC
CPO car qualification
Recently bought a CPO S550 4MATIC '08 from a MB dealership. Had problems with heat, brought it to a local dealer who told me several interesting things. First, the heat problem was due to a corroded blower with leaves and sticks in the vents, and old dirty filters (should have been discovered/fixed with B service). Also both headrests were broken, a sign of a collision.
To be a CPO, the car can have no accidents, correct? Any thoughts on where I should go from here with this information? Feeling like I didn't get a CPO-quality car after all.

I assume it has been longer than 7 day/500 mile (whichever comes first) period in which dealer will exchange vehicle for another, and dealer did not supply free CarFax report.
http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/cpo/warranty_info - I suggest asking Sales Manager to request MB rep covering dealership review case.

At the very least, dealer should provide an explanation as to why this CPO vehicle delivered with broken headrests together with free CARFAX report (accident history) and VMI (vehicle master inquiry) listing all maintenance, repair, recall and service campaign work performed by MB dealers to date. Because of the headrest matter, I would suggest you request a 2-year/135,000 CPO Extended Warranty at no cost if dealer refuses this is where MB rep comes in.

"both headrests broken" is a strong indication that the dealer did NOT perform the steps described in the Mercedes CPO documentation. The headrests are a safety item.
Safety, security, and solidity
You can rest easy knowing your MBCPO
dealer has inspected and OK’d all the
systems designed to help ensure your
protection — from the seat belts to the
alarm system.
If the dealer did not follow the steps above, what else did they miss? If the vehicle was involved in a collision, was it properly repaired? Is the frame bent? How can you "rest easy" knowing the dealer did NOT comply with the CPO requirements?
I would demand a full refund and return the vehicle. There may be other undisclosed collision damage. Contact MBUSA, ask for their legal department, and inform them of what has happened.
