OBDII Code P2422 - Evaporative Emission System Vent Shut

Hi Folks,

I,ve got a 2007 S550 with 66Kmiles, one of the earlier ones, which has been 'relatively' trouble free till a week ago.

The check engine light went on, and this time its not going away cause of the gas cap. So, I purchased an inexpensive OBDII reader and the code it is reporting is P2422- Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Vent Shut.

Like many others on this forum, I have the problem of filling my gas tank at extremely slow rates, to prevent premature fuel shut off. But I've been doing this for 2.5 years now, and the check engine light has never lit up cause of this.

I presume I need to change my charcoal canister shut off valve, but I dont want to spend the money unless I know for sure that might be the issue.

Also, my OBDII reader wont clear the code. Do I need to go the dealer to clear the check engine light and the error code?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
vinay

I have the same problem.
Changed the valve on top of the canister and harness(up dated version) in early November.
P2422 code has come on twice since.
Filling fuel trouble for two years now.....
I hope someone can chime in on this one.

Follow up to my original post. The check engine light went off a few days later. I do think this might be a gas cap problem, but cant be sure. I removed the gas cap, cleaned both surfaces and the rubber seal thoroughly, the metal with some steel wool and the gas cap with a old cloth. I then wiped everything off with a clean cloth to ensure there was no steel wool or cloth residue left. The light hasn't come back since.

I do need to replace the charcoal shut-off valve, would appreciate any advice is this is a D-I-Y or if I should take it to my mechanic.

Also, if anyone has some recommendations on how to clear the codes, it would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Vinay

OK, I am going to replace the charcoal canister and the shut-off valve. Can anyone tell me which side of the gas tank the unit is located?

Has anyone done this as DIY, as I am about to attempt?

Thanks in advance,

if yours is a left hand drive/steering then it is on your rear right. charcoal canister is located inside the wheel well liner rear side (right rear wheel well)

Do you have the part number? both canister and valve? and where did you get it and the price, if you don't mind. Thank you.

2010 c300 sport v6 flex
c300 p2422 charcoal canister

Hi guys!

I'm have some trouble with my 2010 c300 sport V6 flex. When I stop to fill up the car won't turn over. After waiting about an hour it starts right up. the code is p2422 Evaporative Emission System Vent Valve stuck closed. The dealer diagnostic has it as "fault" 0954: The shutoff valve of the activated charcoal canister sticks in the close position. the part #0014701393 I found it on the service form. My questions are... has anyone had this problem? where is it located ? Am I going in the right direction? is it an easy fix? any diagrams of where I'll be working? any HELP WOULD BE GREAT

Hi, i have the same problem on my 2010 E550 coupe, i replaced the charcoal canister, the symtom went away but came back a week later, before when i fill up the gas it wouldn't turn over until 2 min. later it will start right up, after changing the canister, it wants to turn over but it was struggling but it did turn over, it's easy to to replace it,the one have it's a whole piece, you would have to remove the rear wheel cover underneath the gas tank, the charcoal canister is a slip on, there's a lil tab on the bottom right side that you would have click and slid up.
