how to access & change side mirror turn signal light
Good day all,
I'm a newbie to the forum, my buddy and I are trying to replace his S550 side mirror turn signal light bulb that has blown out. we would like to access it to replace the bulb.
We would greatly appreciate any advise and/or steps to removal or access the side mirror (passenger side)to get the old bulb out and replace with new, before going the dealer route.
Thanks kindly,
feelsj

Wow...good timing. I just opened my mirror up today to change the assy due to a crack. As JonMBZ said, it is the whole blinker assy that must be changed. I believe the assy is part number A 2198200621....check the "6" on the third to last digit, mine is "521" not 621 for the driver side.
1) pry on the top of the mirror with your fingers and pull it out and down...it has come clips that hold it onto the adjustment mechanism...I was worried, but it just pops off..BUT BE CAREFUL, there are three wires that are attached to the glass from the housing, at least in my case...depending on heated options etc. may be diff.
2) once the glass is removed, there are three screws and a connector that hold the motor/pivot mount in place...not the center screw, but the three on the outside of the circular mount.
3) then there are several screws that hold the painted "front housing frame" to the rear housing...remove these. one is sort of hidden on the lower side center of the assy...it is not attached to the front frame housing.
4) When all screws and front housing is removed, disconnect the wire clip that plugs into the blinker, and you can pry up on the main housing assy where it meets the door and it will come loose.....you can then manuver it up and rotate down and away from the mounting assy...it will slde off and you can remove the blinker assy two screws and replace.
Not sure how clear this is, but let me know if you need more...the scariest part for me was pulling the glass off...kept thinking I was gonna break it...
