removing the cup holder

I have removed the 2 screws under the rubber mat but still cannot lift the cup holder out, is there some trick to doing this please

What year do you have? For the pre-facelift there should be two screws at the top where the cup holder assembly meets with the lighter/ashtray assembly. The screws are hidden by two black rubber covers that also serve as stops for the cupholder cover when you push it in to open.

I don't believe removing the screw under the rubber mat is needed to lift the cupholder assembly. There are two tabs at the bottom though. Just remove those two top screws and lift carefully.

I'm not sure if it's different for the facelift years, perhaps someone else can chime in.
