Exclamation 8 piston AMG brakes on w221

Has anyone successfully upgraded their brakes to the SL55/65 8 piston AMG brakes on a w221 S550? I have tons of clearance with my 20" wheels, just wondering if the bolts and brackets all line up?

Also, if rear conversion works as well any advice would be appreciated.

From what I've been able to find out, the 8 piston setup will NOT work on the w221 because of the offset on the brake rotor. I have heard that the 6 Piston setup will fit without a problem. I'm trying to hunt down Steve "MBenzNL" for those parts!

E55/SL55 amg front rotors and calipers are a direct bolt on.

Rears, i heard euro S600 is a direct bolt on for calipers but i dont know what rotors. unfortunately euro spec needs to be bought over the pond form fleabay or BenzNL

It would be a nice upgrade with 20 inch rims but the cheapest ive seen is 1600 for a used set front e55s. then probably as much for the rears if euro s600 is the only choice.
just too much to spend on a car im hopping to trade in for 63 next year.

Are you saying that the Euro w220 S600 setup will work... Front and rear?

The S63's have been dropping and are quite affordable, I've thought about it myself. But my next will be an SL =).

You'll have to check with BenzNL,
Since the fronts can be used form US E55 i did not ask about the fronts at that time,
but for the back its W221 EURO S600 is what he suggested i use.

I'm actually not sure if i'll go for 63 or 600. i just want something with a peppier trans. i hate how this car goes in to granny mode after taking it easy for 10 minutes and when you need to get up on it to switch in to faster lane it does nothing. So either AMG trans or perhaps power of 600 will help me with that.

Not that it is cheap, but i did a RENNtech brake kit front and rear on a S600, took about 3 hours start to finish, and was perfect fit. The vehicle has 21" rims though

That would be nice! but yes, thats pricey.
I'd have to do something like that as soon as i get the car. otherwise its hard to justify such investment if you're not keeping car for too long.

MBenzNL confirmed me that Euro s600 spec BBK as follow:
Direct bolt on Front + Rear for rear wheel drive s550.
4matic s550 ONLY works with FRONT kit !!!
Any ideas for rear BBK upgrade?

Just completed my AMG E55/SL55 brake upgrade. 8 pot front, 4 pot rear.
Everything was bolt on. No other mods were needed on my installation.
S550 (non-4Matic)

Here's what you need, most part from autopartswarehouse

1) 2006 E55/SL55 front and rear calipers, front E55/SL55 rotors, rear SL55 rotors. (E55 rear rotor will not work, it sits too deep.)
2) AKEBONO EURO ULTRA-PREMIUM BRAKE PADS, CERAMIC (AKEUR983 - front set) (AKEUR984 - Rear set)
3) Zimmerman Rear SL55 AMG Rotor (W0133-1822290)
4) BG Brake silencer liquid for pads, silencing paste for edges and rear of pads.

They look awesome, so much better than stocks, and way more stopping power.

if its not a secret, how much did it run you? im having hard time finding calipers on that site. it keeps giving generic crap.
I keep going back and forth on it. want to get s600 or 63 next year and dont know if it would be worth it spending couple grand for one year of enjoyment.

Calipers can be found on Ebay for around 1400-1800.
Front rotors are about 130 each rear rotors are around 90 each. Brake pads are about 130 for front set and 99 for rear set. Labor can vary, if you have a brake line bleeder it's possible to do it yourself. Took us about 1 hour per set to install. Plus about 45 minutes to bleed out the entire system. So about 3 hrs total.

The rotors and brake pads are on autopartswarehouse.

MBenzNL aka Steve Krabbenborg might have the calipers for this car as well. Ebay usually always has a set or two on auction. GL hope this helps other w221 members that are looking to do the brake mod. I could not find clear info when I was searching the forums. everyone said Euro S600 on the rear but the E55 caliper with SL55 rotor on the rear did the trick for me.

Exclamation To paint or not to paint?

What color do you all think goes best with Designo Graphite?

Cobalt Blue, Red, Yellow, AMG Ceramic Copper?
I'm leaning towards blue or yellow... they really pop.

Silver is great, but they blend in with the rotor and everything else in there. Love it, although just want a little pop under there. I'm leaning towards the RED with white AMG lettering.

The electric/cobalt blue is my second choice just cause not many people have that color and it works well with the Designo Graphite color. pops but doesn't scream out like the others.

I'll probably have this done within the next 2 weeks.

Sorry what about the brake hoses? Do they need changing as well, because I am not sure whether the original ones are long enough?

Original Brake lines do not need to be replaced, but you can upgrade to stainless steel braided lines while you are at it.

So just to make sure I got this.
front: 2003-2006 E55 calipers, rotors and pads.
back: 2003-2006 E55 calipers and pads. SL55 rotors.

Did I get it right?
Any thing else I need to to know? E55 bolts or stock S550 bolts will do?

Thanks.

Correct. Calipers can be from SL55 or E55, both share the same front rotor but rear rotor needs to be SL55 for non-4matic w221.

Stock (S550) bolts work.
