THIS IS KILLING ME! - NOISE from the front left brakes........MECHANIC SAID THIS?

apparently i need a new "brake cylinder"

something about having 4 out of 4, but i have 3 our of 4... i dunno i spoke to my indy mechanic and could barely hear him...

the issue is after driving roughly 15 mins, i will start to hear a metal on metal noise as the wheel turns. when i touch the brakes a tad bit the noise goes away. in the past ive had noise when turning the wheels left or right.

has anyone had any similar issues to this?

brake cylinder???

I'm guessing he means brake piston, i.e. caliper piston?

In other words, you have a piston in your caliper that is sticking and lightly dragging.

if the car is under warranty, they will just replace the caliper...about a 2 hour job. Then again, even if its not under warranty, they will push caliper replacement.

more information:

It seems in the mornings the sound is low, once i drive on the highway for a half hour and get into bumper to bumper traffic I can hear the sounds clearer. Usually, after work the sound is louder.

Im thinking the heat expands something and then it contacts with another metal piece thus making the sound.

Sometimes, The noise is so bad turning corners in the garage, driving in bumper to bumper traffic. The sound is like a see-sawing bird sound....

anyone have additional info?

Im taking the car into MB, i have warranty, i hope this is taken care of and fixed.

could also be a brake master cylinder, but that seems odd given your symptoms.

usually in the morning on start up i dont hear anything, after 15 minutes on the highway i can hear a faint metal on metal rub. after a while of driving, especially a lot of slow/stop and go the noise will not go away unless i have to do a hard brake then the noise goes away for a breif period. sometimes even turning will make this noise. I can remember for a 10 minute span the noise was horrible and did not go away, basically every wheel rotation youll hear a metal on metal swirling noise....

apologies if this did not make sense.

hmm. I suppose it could be a master cylinder that somehow jams up when hot, which would retain pressure to a caliper.

really though, I'm just guessing, so an in person diagnosis is crucial.
