Anyone experience this? Am guessing its either the alternator or one of the batteries. Just want to see if anyone has had a similar issue.

Thanks

Had same problem. Replaced alternator, $1800 part and labor. All back to normal

I think I am having this problem my car keeps dying while it is running then presenting me with this red battery light and no wording. I'm assuming this can be nothing other than the alternator causing this correct? Does mercedes throw any sort of code for an improperly working alternator? I found one stating communication with the starter or alternator has a malfunction.

Try to see when and what is impacting your voltage.
Also see my post to follow what happens to my case. It might help.
I have been noticing my fan has been coming on and staying on for a very long time right before the car finally died and gave me the red battery error. Did you ever figure out the cause? I thought the fan was coming on more because of the hotter outside temp.

Battery Warning

I have a similar issue, but the car starts without issue and the warning can be cleared. It often sits for long periods, and i recently drove it for almost 500 miles with the warning appearing about halfway on that trip. It almost seems erroneous but I'm sure something is bring it on, if just temporarily.

Any thoughts - starter battery, alternator, VR?

Check voltage off/ voltage on and check all terminals for corrosion. At the very least, disconnect your battery terminals and clean them.

Probably the alternator mine did the red warning but only right before it died. Wish I was lucky enough to be warned earlier so I could have made arrangements.

Thanks. With the ignition off, both batteries read 12.5, with the car running both are at 14.7 Vdc. The terminals are pristine. I'm going to start checking the fuses.

That's what I'm most worried about. I'm thinking about a long ride next week, so it has me nervous. Thanks for your reply.

I would get the alternator checked even still it may not make a difference because mine was intermittent and sometimes would charge the battery. Eventually the battery started not receiving proper charge and I had thought it was the battery or some parasitic drain because I did not get any red batt light. It actually likely caused my esl to fail as well and when the alternator finally said bye the red light appeared.

Your alternator is probably going to test fine because it's producing volts. You need to have it scanned by a star type system. Your dash light did throw a code and a star system will tell you what it was even if it's not happening at the time of testing.

mine was the alternator. The new one was supposed to be fined but was actually faulty and would stop charging from time to time. We replaced it a second time and everything is fine since
