VENTS

I had the temp on HI and heat was blowing through main vents and side pillar vents...but cool through rear cabin vents in center panel between front seats. What setting controls these vents? Thx

Interesting. I had the heat on the other day and couldn't figure out why the center rear vents were cool. So if you want heat out of those rear vents, how are you supposed to get it? It's basically saying to close those vents completely, which doesn't make sense.

lol, this sounds like an issue that should have been from 15 years ago. I grew up with these cars, and there are always things that make you scratch your head with German engineering.

I guess the rear centre vents are more for cooling just like the front centre vents. Usually cool air should come from top vents as cool air will flow downwards. Heat to the rear would come from the vents below the front seats. Then again the side vents will provide heat properly but that must be to keep side windows clear.

The car could still be more clever to close the air flow to the rear vents when the air is not convenient if it cannot control the air temperature for proper heating.

THE ONLY THING I DONT LIKE ABOUT THE GERMAN CARS IS THAT YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE HEAT TURNED ON TO GET WARM AIR IN THE CABIN, THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE WITH JAPANES MODELS SUCH AS LEXUS, ETC...IN MY LEX I COULD JUST RUN THE HEAT FOR 10MINS THEN TURN IT OFF AND IT STILL BLOWS THAT HOT AIR IN.

I kind of like the fact that the car does not let in air by itself. If you want cold you got cold, if you want hot you got hot. But than again about the rear vents, its kind of stupid that there would be no heat coming out of there and it would only be made for cooling. hmmm.

Yeah but in the case that you didnt want the hot or cold air to come in you could simply press the circulate air interior only button. I think the benz does the cold air through vents with AC off, just doesnt do the heat. This is good especially during those times of the year that you dont really need to run the ac or heat because it saves you gas.

Ok, I've been messing around more with this. Since I have splitview, it comes with a remote and I can sit in the back and control the whole car and climate. I'm starting to like this remote.

I messed with the whole climate control settings and some things to note. This is all referring to rear passengers (for cars without rear mounted controls for ac/heat)

1) Auto mode ON, which I never use in any car, seems to be the best choice for this car as it puts the air/heat everywhere. In the front, it comes out the top vents, the front/rear footwells, the rear middle, and the rear pillar vents. Yes, you heard correct, I had ~heat~ coming out of the middle rear vents. I had the temp on "hi" setting, and heat goes everwhere.

2) Auto mode OFF. Heat would not come out of the rear footwell vents when you select top and bottom arrows in command? Strange to me. Rear footwells would only come on with top/bottom/defrost icon selected on and if turned to bottom only (arrow pointing down) footwells in rear come on.

I will rarely be in the rear, but want to make sure people aren't frozen back there. The remote control saved me a lot of time with this testing

Some more things messing with this, and it's a little confusing. If you don't have the temp set to high up front, the rear starts shooting cool air in the back it seems. Like, once you get down to 80 degrees in the front, the rear will put out much cooler air than the front? Has anyone mastered getting adequate heat to the rear?

Also, bulletin Diesel posted above says no rear heat comes out of the rear middle vents. Heat will, but you have to have the front temp set very very high like Arizona high.

Also, see this:

Do most of you keep your rear center vent closed when the heat is on?
