S550 4 Matic Lowered + New Wheels
Here's a pic of my old w221 with 21" Staggered, & my new w221 4matic with 20" OEM AMG wheels..
It's designed to compensate in quick bursts, but operating in that mode constantly will prematurely burn it up. He said keep the rolling diameters under 3% and your AWD system will be perfectly happy. I say go for it.

I didn't get the extended warranty with this one.. I was planning on selling the 21's & putting it towards the extended coverage. Now you got me thinking again.... decisions, decisions. We'll see what happens...

What does Without ABC Sport Suspension refer to and how do I find out if I have it?
I want to lower my S 4matic. I purchased it with 19" AMG factory wheels that were chromed. I like the look of the wheels but not all the space between the fender and tire of course.
Those EBay links look like a highschooler made them in metal shop. Try www.adjustableairride.com or www.ghostmotorsports.com (Ghost Links)
Twice the money and worth it. As the car is lowered the tops of the rear wheels will begin to tuck themselves inward more, so you'll want spacers on those wheels to flush out the wells.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG

These were the ghost links when they were plastic:

I didn't take a pic of the new Ghost Links before I installed them, but basically, the blue shaft is now aluminum. and thicker looking. Everybody raves about them cause you can adjust them without removing the link, where you would have to pop one side off each link of the AAR to make it shorter or longer. Like I said... If I could do it over, I would to the AAR again. You'll see what I mean when/if you get the ghost links. They feel flimsy... I keep thinking I'm gonna wake up one day & the rear end is gonna be sitting on the ground cause the rear link fell apart.
That would be EFT-up...Here's a perfect description of what I'm talking about... If you where to hold the Ghost link between your thumb & your pointer finger, the long way... Then pinch the shaft with your other hand and and try to move it,.. it would wobble. It's like threads from both ends have WAY too much play when they thread into the shaft. Maybe it was tighter when it was plastic, but it sure as hell is WAY too loose now.. Feels very unstable IMO

It looks like with the GL's you'd still need to jack up a wheel, but by rotating the middle section you could adjust the length while it's still attached to the car. On a drop you're never going to settle on the first height you try...it's always a bunch of trial and error, so being able to adjust them in place is a benefit. Given that the link is not a load bearing part of the car's working suspension, the GL's lack of heft is probably not an issue. You literally could cut a pair of links out of stiff cardboard and they'd work until they got wet.
Here's a couple of "safe" 21" fitments for your 4Matic:
F 21x9 255/30R21 R 21x10.5 285/30R21 (Variance of 2.60%)
And safer:
F 21x9 255/35R21 R 21x10.5 285/30R21 (Variance of 1.05%)
www.1010tire.com has a nice online calculator that lets you experiment with different front vs rear tire sizes and reports the difference in rolling diameters.
Sooo i like the calculator thing on that website but i just cant get it to work like i want with my limited car knowledge.
I'm thinking about 22" vossen cv3 for my s550 4matic but of course they come staggered. What would be a couple suggested fitments with tires to keep that variance under 2%. Think you can spit out a couple examples for me using that tool?
Also what would anyone suggest with those wheels on what to do with the offset and Adjustable lowering links with that setup??
I know all these little tweeks (wheels, tires, variance, lowering links, spacers, etc) can be modified to cause/have minimal damage to the system, but does anyone think it is a bit much or should i go for it? It is not my everyday driving vehicle but i still don't want any type of drivetrain issues 6 months down the road after riding like that.
SUGGESTIONS ......... INPUT .........!!!????
22x9 +32 Offset F
22x10 +45 Offset R
This tire size combo has a rolling diameter difference of 2.19%:
255/30R22 / 275/25R22
These would give you a gentler ride, and has a difference of 2.75
265/35R22 / 275/30R22
Offsets should be fine as is. Rear might require a small spacer depending on how wide you go.
