There are few cars in the automotive industry that have histories as lengthy and storied as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Look at any one of the eight Benzes hugging the banking above, and you'll be reminded of the innovations that particular car brought to the market: the W116 that heralded ABS 1978, the W126 that introduced airbags in 1981, and the W140 that brought electronic stability control to the party in 1995. Nowadays, if a car leaves its production line without the last two features, it is officially unfit for the U.S. market. Imagine in 10 years time when it will be compulsory for cars to come standard with radar-guided cruise control and lane-keeping assist.
