And in 4 years, that'll be $52k. yea, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the sound system.
So true. I'd lease one though. The payments on the 221 are close to the lease payment on the 222 at $100k/36/15k. The 221 has two years of CPO remaining and then it'll have to go.
When I go back in to hear the stereo I better leave my checkbook in the 221
I parked next to a W222 a couple days back. Those 19in 5 spoke AMG rims do not look as bold as the 19in AMG rims on the W221 or the 20in AMG rims on the W221. However, the new 20in multispoke alloys and 20in multispoke AMG rims look great on the W222.

Face it MB made a great looking car with the W222. The W221 is a beautiful car especially the facelift and there's no need to rush out and upgrade to the newer model if you have it because it's beautiful and well respected.

Agree. I think it's hard for us 221 guys to accept we've been taken down a notch from the top of the luxury sedan food chain.

To me the w222 just doesnt stand out. You should be able to tell from a mile away that there's an S-class coming down the road. This has the same front as the new E-class. Dont get me wrong the e class is a nice car but you should be able to distinguish easily between the two. And the back looks like they slapped a CL rear end on it. The flares on the w221 said "This is an S class" and you would never mistake it for another car

Correct! I'm serious when I say this. If you put both in a parking lot, and said they were both the same year, I'd still pick the 221. Timeless design.
ALso, Not a fan of the new body E class. I think the last body looked much more expensive and I liked the squared off back end.

Agreed especially it looks like a CL in the rear. It get's worse for the W222. Someone will definitely mistake the new W205 for a W222. The W204 didn't really look like a W221.
I live in a modest city with a population short of 30k and there's a local businessman here who is fond of the S-Class. He's recently acquired a W222 and I always have trouble telling whether it's an S or C. Since I often stumble on him I happen to have seen it from all angles(backing out, turning etc...) and it doesn't have that presence of his previous one.
Before this one he had a pre-facelift W221 and it always had that menacing look and presence about it. And it was a SWB! You could never mistake it for something else.
Aside from the rear end of the 222,I still prefer the 221. (I've always disliked the 'bangle butt'). The 222 has an understated presence. I was initially excited over the new design but after seeing it on the road, my opinion is less favorable. The 221 has a more in your face design which I prefer. I have an 07 with the AMG Sport package and find I can't distinguish between the new one's base and AMG models as much. In trying to fill the gap of Maybach with the new S, I feel they've fallen in the same trap, the Maybach was plain and boring and too subtle looking. The 222, while elegant looking, is just a bit too plain. I'll be awaiting the mid-cycle face-lift.
Am I the only one who thinks that the w222 is just an oversized version of the new C-class??? (Exterior design)
I think MB dropped the ball on this one... I'll hang on to my w221 for a while.

Agree on both counts. also the W222 looks like a large W212 from the rear/side view. I also think the front-end is just plain garish and gaudy. The flares do make the W221 distinctive.

Agree, bit when I looked at the pics of the two cars on this thread the W222 reminded me of my former 2012 W212 from the right rear view as compared to the W221.
I do like the fragrance distribution unit, but do not like the strip club interior lighting

For a significant amount of the car exterior, it is very sedate looking in comparison to the W221, but that front-end with the oversized grille and bumper areas are pure Dragon face. Looks like they copied the old Volvo P1800 front-end style.
The 221 is my 3rd S, the two previous being 220s. I don't foresee getting into a 222. It's an elegant car but MB went whole hog into a new direction for the S that I don't currently embrace.
I really liked the level of detail and craftsmanship in the 222 cabin initially, but when I look at one now it just seems like it's trying too hard. Every design element is dialed up to a "10". How many separate contours and patterns are necessary on one seat?
I've had my 2011 s550 since December and for me there is no question the W222 is a much better looking car, minus the steering wheel (not a fan).
Plan on hanging on to the '11 until the CPO 14's start showing up? The first big chunk of them will show up at the two year mark when MB's most favorable residuals (24 mo/12k mi) start coming back in.

Yep. Mine is a late 2011 model so I still have plenty of warranty left. I'll stick with it until I can find a 2014+ in mauritius blue or a 2011+ s63 amg in the same color. I still can't get over how much i like this color.
I love my 221. No question that the 221 is unique. I have been around mb all my life and one thing is still the same. The newer versions always out dose the prior model. The 222 is step above cars on the road today. If your a bells and whistle person it is the best mb has ever offered.please allow the after market guys the time to really make it sexy.when I first saw the 221 I was not loving the fender flairs because it was not as clean as the 220. Make no mistake in the next year or two I probably will have a 222. Im pretty sure that wheel companies are designing some really sick wheels for it. You can bet that Prior designs will have a really nice body kit for it as well. In time most of us will convert to the 222. And love it just as much as our 221.

Yours is the only one in that color I've ever seen. Did you ever get your wheel vibration issue resolved?
I'll be out of my 221 by July '16 but I'm not thinking 222. I'm thinking 2012+ CL550 or a 10+ CL63. This one has been my desktop background for a few weeks. I have to say I'm falling in love.
If the new S coupe does to current gen CL's resale value what the 222 has done to the 221, a CPO CL would be reasonably inexpensive.

I had the 2011 as well, very recently I trade it and I got the S63 2014(used).
I agree with you on the look however I personally love the steering wheel because I am 6'4" and I love the extra room for my legs relative to the steering wheel.

Amazing how much the prices have dropped on C216s have dropped. I found a P3 CL550 for $23,900 with decent mileage and clean title. I plan to get into a S63 very soon. I just got my W221 and want to enjoy it first.
That is a nice looking car right there. I may have to go check one out as well. I've never been a fan of CL's b/c I just dont get the point of such a large car (almost the size of a s550) but without the rear passenger room. Am I missing something? I'm used to small coupes that are much lighter and tossable - ie I have an older e46 m3, and previously had similar small sized coupes but never any of the bigger ones.
I never did get my vibration issue resolved fully but I'm pretty certain it's related to the offset. The 20"s vibrate less than than the oem's I had at 60mph, but it turns out that one of my front oem's was bent. The vibration is very minor and doesn't annoy me enough to spend time chasing the dealer to fix it. I also did wind up bending both of my front rims and since they are just aftermarket replicas, I'm not going to bother fixing them. I'll know about the vibration issues in the winter as I'm soon getting a set of winter tires. Currently I'm driving on some michelin pilot super sports for the summer which have been great.
I did see a s63 in the same color as mine for sale a few months back. I should have traded up but it was only a month into my s550 experience, though I'm not sure if it would have been worth another 30k.
