Looking to buy an W221 - Someone look at this Carfax?
Hey guys,
I'm looking to get into a 2012 S550 since the W222 is out and the price seem to really be plummeting on the W221. I found one that had just the right amount of mileage and the options I wanted - Black on black, of course.
I was wondering if someone could take a look at this Carfax for me and tell me what you think. Of course, I would make the trip to the dealership to test drive the car and get a PPI done, but just wanted to know what to expect. It seems like the car was purchased and a year later was traded in to a Ferrari/Maserati dealer at 6,702 miles (11/14/2012). What I don't seem to understand is where it has been for the past 1.5 years and 10,000 miles. It is listed as being sold and listed for sale numerous times all under "Dealer Inventory." Does this mean the car was just traded among dealers, and whoever at the dealership was driving the car around (which explains the mileage increase)?
Additionally, it seems that it hasn't been serviced since it was bought on 8/11 until recently on 5/14. I know Carfax doesn't tell the whole story, but if this were the case is this something to be worried about?

maybe it was uses as a shuttle to drive people around. At my local dealership they do that when people bring in their car and you dont need a loaner but dont have a ride back home. they have a driver take you back home

by reading the history my guess is the original owner bought the s550 and either got bored of it quick or didnt like it and traded it in for a ferrari or something. Then that dealer used it for regular business use. Then it prolly got sent to auction. Seeing it went through 2 mb dealerships im guessing they are affiliated and swap cars regularly. see if they are affiliated

I agree with Nick. Also, I wouldn't worry too much about the service history at the mileage or age. Especially if it was used for regular business use the dealership most likely did regular maintenance internally and didn't log it. You may be able to ask for any internal service records (or check the glovebox).
