SDS = Start Diagnostic System? So, dealership then in my case (local indy shop doesn't have that tool). Of course I need snow and ice to be gone for good and some good rain to wash off the roads

I can check the exact steps later but as far as I recall you go into the COMAND section and then you do variant coding. You basically tell comand what's available (AUX, backup camera etc). It's a basic operation they should know how to do.

Thanks much! And yes, they should know how to do it. But my local dealership is ancient and the service writer has no interest in doing anything outside of scheduled maintenance and expensive repairs. This is the same dealership that, last year, told me they couldn't update the COMMAND firmware to the latest version. "That's not something we'd do". On top of that, the service writer is a Grade-A *****. Imagine a comic book store owner mixed with a golf course manager. That's him. The only reason I'm using them is that this will take minutes and I don't want to drive 1 hr each way to the next closest dealership.

One excuse that they seem to be giving lately is "your car is too old and we don't have the software for it anymore". This was from somebody who had a car from 2011. Ridiculous.

Sounds very familiar. Just invest the 700 into getting a good Chinese SDS copy with a laptop and you'll be set. No reason to deal with bad attitudes and BS....and on top of that they don't even know what they're doing.

You no need any subscription on SDS. Just get a good quality SD Connect (make sure it has SD card slot, proper wifi card connector, all chips are present) and you're good to go. I have old C3 version for several years and it worth every penny. If you are DIY person and you like to work on your MB then this is a must have tool. With this tool is much easier to troubleshoot problems, perform testing, change settings etc...

Wish me luck. Going to the dealer tomorrow to get my Aux input activated. The local dealer here in town has no idea how to do it, so I have to drive an hour to another dealer.

Good news, Betten Imports did it for me for only 1/2 hr of labor ($67.50). That seems fair to me. It works, but man does the interface SUCK. The ipod itself doesn't respond to commands on the wheel when plugged in and the display goes pretty much blank when it uses that input source. As best I can tell, I can just click to the next song. No ability to navigate the music on the device.
I'm putting a bluetooth adapter on it anyway, but thought it was pretty crummy

Oh, they absolutely skimped on the software. But, a $60 BT dongle will fix it

If you select Audio from the display in the center of the speedo, you should see track information. The Up/Down arrows on the steering wheels let to skip/repeat tracks. This works for iPhones but is not true if you have Android at least not what I've found to be true.

Yes, that works for me. But to move around an ipod with thousands of songs... not so good!

However the android unit I just installed has me using Spotify and listening to the radio a lot less.

TOTALLY agree. I find myself frustrated when the RDS disdplay will only show 12 chars. at a time out of the 48 available. So a song comes on the radio and I'm trying to catch the display at the right time so I can figure out what song it is! This is something my Kenwood headunit did extremely well, in 2001. :/

Yes, that map you see above is Waze. One thing to remember is that you need an active Internet connection for Waze to work, as well as GPS. Without the Internet there is no routing, map updates, community updates or traffic.
The methods available (as mentioned in the Android thread) are;
- Use your phone as Wifi Hotspot
- Use a Mifi hotspot
- Put a GSM SIM compatible with the country you are in into the Android unit. I actually have a spare SIM but have not tried to see if this new-generation unit works with it yet.
