There was a bulletin on this. I think they fiddled with the idle speed to find a slightly happier place to cut down on steering wheel vibes.

That is correct. Thats one part of the solution. raising rpm by 50 in drive.

Still wonder what the 1500-2000 stumble is.

Is it really a stumble? Put your hand on the engine to see if it's actually running any differently.

Not all the times, but half the times in DRIVE when stopped I get a buzz through steering wheel.
Also a light harmonic vibration when revving in neutral between 1500-2000, very slight.

Few mechanics told me I am nuts and its an old car. MB shops by the way.

I have yet to find a shop with star that can check if one of the coils is weak. Or TQ is tired.
I’ll tell ya, I’m getting tired of this myself. I’ve done complete tune up, TB Cleaned and relearned. Changed motor and tranny mounts twice with no luck. Today i disconnected mid pipe from exhaust and ran it to see if vibrations get better. I still felt same vibrations in reverse and drive. Looses top bolt on engine mounts and loosened transmission mount nuts. I made sure exhaust was fitting perfectly all lined up 100%. After adjusting everything I bolted it up started the car ran super super smooth until I put it in gear and turned the wheel. If I don’t turn the wheel it’s smooth. I had someone go inside put it in gear while I’m under the car on the lift without wheels turning and I can feel the vibrations I feel inside flowing through the mufflers. I’m guessing it does have something to do with the pipes. Btw after fiddling with it today I get a slight driveline vibration now 🙄.

Forgot to add, when car was in the air I felt the vibration in mufflers but the vibrations weren’t felt inside the cabin until wheels touched the ground again.

MY MYSTERY IS SOLVED

Happy to finally announce I have solved my dang vibration. When I tell ya I’ve done everything believe me. Almost freaking changed the torque converter too cause there was nothing left to change. My issue was axles 🙃 they were replaced with aftermarket axles. Pulled Mercedes OEM axles from junkyard and replaced my aftermarket’s. Night and day difference 98% vibration is gone!! Might not be everyone else’s issue but if you’ve put on after market axles I’d look into it.

If those are wrong way around, they are jamming and engine vibration transfers dirrectly to front wheel and then the whole car. Right way is the lock washer outwards.
This thread put me in the right track when I troubleshooting my customers car. Thank you all, and greetings from Finland!
Thank you very much Juha. This was exactly the problem with a w221 that tormented me for 2 weeks with body vibrations in D and R. Exact. The rollers in the tripod were reversed. I would never have thought of that. I changed everything that could be changed in the car without success. That is until I read your post. Thank you again. The car in question, S350 cdi 4Matic from 2010
