New To The S550

Hello all! I have an 03 E55 that I have gotten very familiar with but recently bought an 07 S550 4Matic. The car did not come with an owners manual so I am still figuring out what every button does.

The first question I have is the ride height, do all S550 4Matics sit pretty high? There is a big gap between the fender and the tire in both C and S mode. My E55 has the Sport, 1&2 levels and it raises up and down. I have a STAR tool so was wondering if i could lower the S550 the same way I did my E55. Will it hurt the 4Matic at all?

I want to put 22" wheels on it, what is recommended rim width on a 22 rim? What size tires?

Thanks ahead of time!

Your 2007 Manual can be downloaded here: http://www.mbusa.com/vcm/MB/DigitalA..._s550_s600.pdf

You can lower about 1" with STAR. Should not affect AWD, but the car will require an alignment. Links would be the next step, or a lowering module.

22's are a bad idea IMO. In addition to looking too large, combined with a drop you'd be degrading ride quality quite a bit. 21's seem to be the ideal size. I'd do 21's on STAR and progress to links if it's not low enough. Just try to leave a little air in the chambers.

Tire width is not a consideration on 4Matic, however all wheels must have identical rolling diameters, or a variance no greater than 3%. How wide you go is dependent on the wheel offsets you're running

Thank you for the link and information. I will address my research to the 21" option and see what hits I get. Do you know the values for STAR on lowering? I can't find them anywhere.

2013 S550 4matic (AMG sport package), 2016 Corvette Stingray.
I don't feel like my car sits high with the 20's, also I leave my car in sport mode. I never use airmatic suspension or whatever it's called, I hate a floaty ride anyway.
