Some questions about W216 CL550

Hey guys,

Please to meet all of you, I have recently bought MB CL216 550 AMG, 2008 manufacturing year. Please help me out with some issues

1) There is an ipod/iphone cable (30 pin) in the glove box and I can easily connect my old iPhone 4. I am able to see the song name on the front display where speedometer is and switch to next or previous song using the buttons on the steering wheel, the functionality is limited. Is there any possibility to control the iphone using the main screen and iDrive-style joystick, access play lists etc?

2) I cannot pair my iPhone 5 via bluetooth. I follow all steps, enter the pass key in the car interface and in the phone, the Mercedes Comand recognizes my phone and tells me its paired but there is no indication of pairing on my iphone and when I make a call its not switching to MB speakers or anything happens at all.

3) is there a way to connect the phone via bluetooth to stream music and use the comand interface and control elements?

thanks a lot for your time and help

Nice car! You probably want to be on the W216 forum.

1) Should be accessible via COMAND>MEDIA INTERFACE>MUSIC. (Not sure if the Ipod connection is called "Media Interface" or something else in the 08.)

2) Not sure. Try pairing the 4 and see if that works.

3) No stock BT audio. Pick up a Tune2Air BT audio adapter on Amazon. It connects to the 30 pin car cable, self powered and sounds great as well.

Navigating on the Ipod/Iphone can also be done using the alphanumeric keypad behind the big COMAND knob to quickly jump alphabetically in track lists, playlists, etc.

Most of the time you will get more replies for questions about your vehicle here than on the W216 forum since there are a lot more W221s and MOST mechanical and electronics components are identical between the W216 and W221.

FYI-- There was a telematics uupgrade introduced mid year 2008 which added several features including real-time traffic display and the optional birds-eye map display, along with some increased functionality for the telephone keypad. If your vehicle does NOT have any of these features, they can easily be added via a software upgrade. Many dealers are reluctant to perform the upgrade and claim it can't be done. A fair price for the upgrade would be one hour of labor.

Seat heating

Hey guys, another issue with seat heating. When you activate it, the whole seat together with back should be heated or only the lower part when your *** is? (sorry English is not my native its hard to describe the situation )

In my case only the cushion is heated but not the back. So should be the whole seat heated or just a part? thanks a lot

I bought the device you suggested, works great though the sound quality is really lower than playing mp3 from DVDs or CDs

Anyway, thanks a lot.

I still cannot see the songs list on the main display, only on speedometr while the list from CDs/memory card is being read perfectly

Hmmm. I have no disparity in sound quality between the Tune2Air and a hard docked IPod/IPhone (which would be a valid comparison of the Tune2Air.) How does your IPod/Iphone sound when it's connected directly to the car's Ipod cable?
