AUX option missing in COMAND audio menu and other questions

Hi all,

I've been prepping myself to the MB world by checking out posts on this forum - which is a very great community.

This is my first post as I just got my 2009 S550 4MATIC. I tried searching here for answers to my specific questions, but so far wasn't lucky, so hopefully you guys could shed some lights on some things for me.

My questions:
1. I have Ipod and AUX inputs (yellow (video), red (left audio), white (right audio)) in the glove compartment, but can't select AUX when I go to Audio/Audio. It shows Radio, CD player, MP3 etc. there, but the AUX option is missing. Any idea why or how to have it?

2. If I turn off the vehicle with radio or cd player on, no matter what the volume was, when I turn on the vehicle it always starts out very loud? Can this be adjusted down?

3. My brakes are brand new, yet when I roll off the driveway they're squealing very loudly. I have perforated discs, is it why?

4. I was able to pair COMAND with my phone via Bluetooth, but can't do anything. Someone told me I need a Bluetooth module that'd connect to a plug in the armrest. Is that true? If so, how come I was able to pair without it?

5. I was able to change the odometer to show km/h, but temperature units are in F and not C. The dealer told me it is because it's a US version, so no way to change the temp. units to C. Is that true?

6. The tire pressure monitoring sensor complains in the morning for low tire pressure as they're about 33 cold (I set the reference point to 40). When the temperature is warmer in the afternoon they're already close to 37-38 cold and about 40 when warm. I haven't yet been able to find a good reference value to compensate for the temp. fluctuations and I'm wondering how you guys are dealing with this? For example this morning it was -10C but on the weekend it'll be +12

7. Is there an engineering menu on this car? I read that some options can be changed there, but I wasn't able to bring it up so far.

8. Car takes a long time to warm up and for the windows to deice. Is that normal? Is it because it has a large V8 engine that takes time to warm up? All my prev. cars were small 4 cylinders that warmed up much faster.

9. Is there a low windshield washer fluid sensor in this car? I had no fluid this morning yet nothing shows on the dashboard cluster.

10. The left, right front parking sensors (the ones that should show yellow or red bars) as you get close to things when parking - how can I test them? I only see two yellow lines where these bars should be as I approach something at low speed. I only see the right one display all yellows and reds once, but that was when I was backing out from the driveway when switched car with my wife. Are these sensors for the front or the rear?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

If you have any tips to share with S550 4matic, it'd be much appreciated.

Go to the Video menu and select the Aux from there. If the phone paired to the car it has built in BT. No idea why it's not allowing you to send/receive calls. There is no streaming BT audio however.

You need to be within a few feet of an object before the sensors respond. The front sensors display on the dash in the speedometer. The rears are in a little pod that hangs above the rear glass and you monitor it in your rearview mirror.

The heating should start to work within 10-15mins.

The engine is not warmed up then(takes 20-30mins) of course depends on outside temperature.

Do you have the user manual and have you looked at it? Most of the questions are answered there.

Isn't AUX audio mutually exclusive with the iPod interface (on a 2009 221)? There is only one audio port at the COMAND unit for this purpose.

The car should remember the audio level setting when switched off (except perhaps if you had it very very loud, it might start at a bit lower level). I can remember a few 204 models with this issue, something wrong anyway if you have the same audio source active when switching the car off and it starts much louder when turning the car on again.

MB brakes are know to squeal, specifically if wet when the car is parked. Might help if you use brakes well before parking, if not, you can put some specific grease behind the brake pads and other moving parts.

You can pair your phone with Comand but on a 2009 it only serves for uploading contacts from the phone to Comand and in addition you can use a BT headset for "private" calls. For hands free calling you need a bluetooth adapter to the UHI/MHI connector inside the centre armrest.

You cannot change the HVAC readings on a 221 without diagnosis tools and even there it isn't straightforward. I'd say your dealer is right about the issue #5.

It should be sufficient to use recommended tyre pressures, preferably a bit at the high side. The TPMS system knows the tyre temperature and should not be upset about low tyre pressure because of low temperature, except if the absolute pressure is too low.

I don't think anyone knows about the NTG3 COMAND engineering menu. The cluster has the service menu but I don't think you mean that.

The car certainly has a washer fluid level sensor. Sounds like someone has removed the sensor and replaced it with a resistor, check it.

Parktronic sensors are for front and rear, left and right. The front indicators show the distance observed by the front sensors, the rear sensors do that for the rear sensors. Rear sensors are only active when reversing. Put your gear on reverse and ask your wife to walk around the car, close to it (as close as you allow anyone approach the car). You should see each corner at its time turn from yellow to red, a warning tone coming with the red leds.
