Photographic Evidence of Options
Hello forum members,
I'm shopping for a 2012-13 S Class. Many of the ads I see are woefully lacking in the written information department. So I find myself trying to determine which options a particular car has by looking at the photos. For instance if I can see the keyless start button or the backup camera screen I can see that the car has the P2 package. The pano roof and sport packages are pretty self evident as well.
Is there any tell tale evidence of the Driver Assistance Package, Nightview, Splitview, ABC or Heated Steering Wheel options? It would be particularly nice to discern if a car has the Driver Assistance Package.
Thanks!

VIN datacard is the best way.
But here are a few other ways to tell of certain options:
Keyless go: there is a small square "button" on each door handle if you have KG. Look at pics on eBay of a few cars and you'll see. Do NOT use the start/stop button as a reference because it can be removed... it is possible the car has KG but no button.
Night vision: to the left of the round headlight switch is a "tab" (like the ones on the center console) and it has a night view icon above it. Again, look at a few cars on eBay and you'll see that some have it and others don't.
Heated steering wheel uses the tip of the steering wheel adjust stalk. Above your turn signal is the cruise control, and this is the one that looks just like cruisecontrol but is below the turn signal. The tip twists, just like how you turn the wipers on using the tip of the turn signal. It has a heated steering wheel icon on it
Most ABC cars have a raise/lower button.. perhaps look at the comfort/sport "C/S" button and it might look different on an ABC car.

For Driver Assistance Package (distronic) look at the front grill. You will notice a solid "square" in the lower part of the grill in the center.

Any dealer can provide you with the datacard information, if you are interested in the car, then request that they provide that to you. Also some on this forum will provide you with the datacard information, if you post the VIN.

It's surprising that a someone selling a vehicle like this doesn't list the attributes, especially when it has the options.

The EPC website is working excellently for me. The for sale websites I'm looking at list the VIN # and now I'm able to see the complete build sheet. Very cool and useful.
Thanks again, konigstiger!

So I picked up a well loaded 2013 a couple of weeks ago. Thanks to all of you for your help. Compared to my 2006 E320 CDI, which I still have and am quite fond of, the S is a better car by several degrees in every way.
Now if I can just remember where on this forum I saw the faux wood trim cover that snaps on to the telephone keypad cover.

konigstiger has been extremely helpful. I too tried to sign up but kept getting an error from the site. It's interesting that the service is free but still requires a credit card. I'll try again tomorrow.

Do all of the doors need to have the square or just the front 2 doors? Does this confirm that the cars do indeed have keyless go?
