As I stated in another thread.....I added some music to a friends micro SD card that already had some info on it and when I popped it into my car the first thing that played was a music vid.

I'm not sure what file extension the vid was saved under as I use a Mac (and he uses a MacBook) and when I slipped the memory card into my computer I could see that there was already 8GB of info on his card but my Mac would not display what the info was.

That would be great to know if it would work. I have bought a downloader/converter and have them ready to either put onto a DVD/RW or into the largest possible/usable SD card that the system will allow. Since I have the VID in motion bypassed, I can let the videos run while listening to the music while driving. Better than just looking at the Nav screen or the audio screen or the anything else that might be on the center stack. I can always try them in MP4 or WMA. If you put the SD card back into your computer and click on the properties it should tell you which format they music videos are in. Let me know. Thanks again.

BTW, what year is your system? The 07-09 are different than the 10-13 on the S and 11-14 on the CL

Nope. The factory sd card slot is there only to play music.

Find my old thread if you want to play music video in your car under $300 and 30 min of your time!

If it is the VIM lock pic I bought it already. I wanted another way to watch HD video and use it through my command and steering wheel.

i don't think there is another way other than using dvd, if you are planning on using your steering wheel to skip and rewind.

i use my little remote that came with the media player, and i have zero problem!

That's what I thoguth until a Latin vid began playing from my friends Micro SD memory card.

But......he has since pulled off the music I downloaded to his card and reformatted it to regain the 8gb of used space that we could not see on our Macs. So I guess we might never know what the file extension was that played in my car.

When it began playing I was like WTF.......OK whatever........ But I opened up the folders I loaded to check them and didn't think much about the vid clip that played.

Wish I had invested more time into trying to figure out what type of file was the video.

Jason B, so your saying that you have been able to play music videos through your SD slot? It looks like your S Class in 10 or newer. Which would have the 3.5 Command head unit. So, you have been able to play them? Have you been able to play Videos through your iPod interface or do you have to have the MIP to be able to do that? I just think the Drive Kit Plus is a visual beauty but will not do what I need. I am not interested in going outside of the FACTORY Command and using Siri. She cant understand for crap and I speak perfectly clear and proper English, without an regional accent of any kind. I don't care about Social media, tweeting or things of that nature. The only thing that appeals to me is the Garmin Maps being full 3D and Google street views but the rest is ridiculous IMO. Please let me know. I get different answers but not from S or CL Class owners and only the S and CL use the higher end systems.

I tried MP4, MOV and it seams the SD card is dedicated to the audio only. Any light on it ?

Here is what I've done. I've used a program called replay media catcher, which lets you save any HD youtube music video, it lets you extact the video off of youtube 256 bitrate I think I used. Then I burned to DVD and can listen to music videos with good quality for fun...

Depends on the weather
I just burn the hd videos to a dvd and watch them....as far as putting the videos on an sd card... havent seen that done but if it works I will go buy one since that is easier than burning dvds.

Not to be a downer especially on my buddies business but always in a crash the cars black box will have data from the car up to the moment of impact. On a heavily computer integrated car you'll get speed data, data if the car swerved in and out of lanes, how the brakes were applied and when. It may also log the activity of COMAND including what source was playing what media and what the status of the cell phone,

When you have an accident that is unforseeable and you weren't impaired, no criminal charges apply. It's simply a case for civil damages even if you kill someone.

On the other hand when take it on your own to disable a safety feature directly against the demands of the manufacturer and someone dies as a result that could be considered aggravated negligence, a felony and punishable by 15 years in prison. Ordinary negligence is a misdemeanor with no criminal aspect regardless of how bad the injuries are. They can and will sue you civilly and your insurance will provide an attorney and pay the cost of the defense plus any monetary judgment the court awards them, up to your policy limits.

If you're using the VIM and are involved In an accident try to get it back out of the car regardeless of how liability may look.

i have few videos in digital form and it would be much easier to watch without the hassle of burning dvds. i do not think it is possible with a current system. As far as watching a video while driving: stupid is stupid does :-)
