2009 S550 Bluetooth Audio Tune2Air Sound Quality bad?

Hey all,

So I had been looking for a solution to stream music from my phone to my first Mercedes, a 2009 CLS550, I came across the Tune2Air as recommended here on MBWorld, and it worked great!

Fast forward a few months, I recently bought a 2009 S550, I moved my Tune2Air over to test it out with the S550, and the sound quality is about 1/4 as good as it is in the CLS. In the CLS the audio sounds crisp, just the same as a CD, but when I try the Tune2Air in the S550, it sounds very quiet, completely lacks bass, and is just a poor sound overall.

Anyone else experience poor sound quality in their S550 with the Tune2Air? Any recommendations for a fix for this?

I love everything else about the car, so would love to solve this, thanks in advanced for any help.

I had the same initial experience. When i switched from Galaxy S4 to Iphone, the problem went away. That may not apply to your case at all, but food for thought.

That is very interesting, I already use an iPhone 6+ with mine but I may try it with a different phone to see if the phone could potentially be the weak point. Interesting thought that I will look into, and thanks for the reply

With the same source and material in both cases and the S550 sounding poorer I'd look at the S's audio settings first. They're source-dependent so the settings for FM radio for example can be independent of the settings for the CD changer.

Push Bass & Treble to full and toggle on Logic 7. That should give you more power as well as punch up the lows and highs. The S550's stock system is a sore spot for a lot of owners and I've spent a solid year understanding and modding it to get it where I wanted it. (See link to blog in sig).

Obviously with an Iphone 6 you can also apply the internal EQ presets to wake the sound up a bit. (Settings>Music>Eq). If your files are local I highly recommend the AudioForge EQ app ($2.99) for more precise control and some other processing goodies.

Very good suggestion, I will definitely take a look at that and see if it makes a difference. The files are not local in my case though, I am streaming from Google Music (am doing this on both the CLS and S.)

The interesting thing is that a CD in the S550 sounds much better than a CD in the CLS, but the Bluetooth Tun2Air sounds better in the CLS than the S.

Going to take a look and see if this lends any help. Is turning up the bass and treble dangerous as far as potentially blowing speakers though?

Thanks!

Not even close to dangerous. The S has a really anemic factory EQ relative to how hearty the system is. I've been running the factory amp (and most of the factory speakers ) at very high levels for over a year and they can handle quite a bit of signal.

Thanks man turning up the bass and treble alone has made a world of difference in how everything sounds. It was my biggest peeve with the car, so you've helped me out a lot, cheers.
