Aftermarket TPMS

Hey everyone. After successfully getting my tpms sensors changed with aftermarket for a grand total of 200 I thought I'd share some info that can save you some money.

So mercedes charges 150-200 dolars per sensor on the w221. I had done some homework alittle while back when I had my 2007 ML350. It turns out mercedes uses either 433mhz or 315mhz sensors. The 433 is used in the TMPS system that just says if you dont have enough pressure, whereas the 315mhz is used in cars with live data like ours.

So I found this seller on Ebay who sells either 315 or 433 sensors made by a company called ITM for 170 bucks for all 4 sensors plus valve stems. On my ml350 it was the 433 I used. I was reluctant to try it because I figured it would not work but to my surprise it did!!

So now I did all four of the tpms sensors on mine. I ordered the 315mhz and had a firestone tire center install them for 30 bucks. The sensors also came with valve stems. If they don't I also confirmed that Advance auto parts sells both an oem valve stem that fits our original sensors and an aftermarket universal one that fits these universals. The aftermarket universals are the exact same one this seller ships.

Also no relearning through Star diagnosis is needed. Automatic relearning on our cars. I drove it for about 10 minutes and I was good to go again.

I have these on my 2007 and they work great for a fraction of the price. Definitely would buy again for my next set of wheels.

433 MHz is the European standard. 315 MHz is what most short wave frequencies use in the US.

Good info. Thanks!!!

Advanced sells the TPMS valve stem rebuild kit for $3.99.

I want to buy some aftermarket wheels and will probably need to switch to aftermarket TPMS sensors as the stock sensors might not seal up properly on the aftermarket wheel.

Wow this is just what. Was looking for as I'm about to purchase a set of rims, (beater rims but decent) to put some winter ties on my 08 e320.

Nothing more annoying than having that damm tire pressure ligh glowing.
So what's the total cost for sensors and valves etc.

Do they still have to be programmed to work?

Depends on the weather
Go to advance auto...that's where I get mine and I even bought spares and they are cheap, especially when you use their online discount. I have a post about them somewhere on here.

I had bought the 315 MHz for my 22's this spring and they didn't work. Recently I had to change my tires because I blew one out and it so happens that the tire I was using is discontinued so all 4 were replaced. I decided to try the 433Mhz which corrected my issue and are now working. It's very annoying when your TMPS isn't working.

Sorry to bring up this old thread. I bought a set of 315MHz sensors for my 20" wheels online. Had them installed and the system does not recognize them. Any ideas on what to do? Is there a syncing procedure? Maybe they weren't installed correctly? I am at a loss.

If your car is a 2010-13, then you need the 433 MHz sensors.

If you live in a part of the US where there are Discount Tire shops you can have 4 installed for $160 + Tax. Really a no-brainer because they offer a two year warranty (at least they did when I bought them.)

I have a 2013 ML63 & the front TPMS went out.

The stealership wanted $400.00 for just the one sensor saying it was $200 for the part & $200 for programming.

I wne to Discount Tire who quoted me $60 at first but then informed me they couldn't even order the part & thus they could not fix it.

i found a local Mercedes Shop called German Motors who quoted me $206 (including tax) so I took my car there as $200 seems like a bargain at half the stealership prices. Unfortunately my tale of woe ends not there. I drive the car for 20 miles and now have not just the flat tire graphic in yellow but now have a dash message in yellow reading "Tire pressure monitor inoperative" plus a dash message in red reading "Check tire pressure". To top it all off the custom Mercedes logo valve stem cap was replaced with the generic ugly gray one. I return to the shop tomorrow and hopefully this will be resolved but, gods, what a pain in the ****!

autel now make a universal sensor does either frequency.... they do them made to work alongside a USB socketed config / programming pad that goes in the laptop and you code to whatever you need.

get a deal and you can have the lot for $140 4 sensors and the pad http://www.maxitpms.com/product/611.jhtml

a good diagnostic scanner can capture the code for each location Mercedes used originally and you write this to the new sensors and the car doesn't know any different
the pad can be held against the wheel to code - so you can just fit the universal sensor and sort the mess whenever -
