Black on Black S550 to Flint Gray S63 Designo today? Opinions?

Well, there is an 08 S63 that I keep seeing near me so I finally called them today. They have a customer looking for a black/black S550 and he wants to buy my car for top dollar and then sell me the 08 S63 which he said is in perfect condition on the showroom floor.

I am going to "LOOK" at it around 3pm today. He is very enthused to sell it to me today and include a bumper to bumper warranty for free.

My wife will kill me if I buy another car after only having this one for about 5 months.

What do you think? It is Flint Gray with Designo interior - black piano and alcantara interior...but I do not care for the gray interior or piano honestly...It also does not have the rear seat reclining package or whatever it is called. It does have the upgraded side mirrors also and rear trunk spoiler.

Opinions? Comments? It would basically be an even trade from my car to this one if I did more than "look" at it.

The dealer's going to give a free bumper to bumper warranty on a 7 year old AMG with 63k miles? That's rich!

Yup. It's an aftermarket warranty though not mercedes dealer. I'll find out the specifics when I get there. You know sales people say anything.

I know that dealer by the two doors in the back with the arrows! If I'm not mistaken, they have a ton of S65 in inventory, some s63 with the biturbo engine.

Anyways, updated side mirror is a plus! But having a base s550 with most options and moving to an S63 with no option sucks. I like having my rear passengers heated/cooled, you're in an S-class! The plus side is not having so many electronics mess up in the future, unless their warranty covers it. I hope they give you a good deal for your current. What year is yours? Do you mind the preface look?

Warranty would be the kicker on this one. When you look at it, check the front brake rotors for wear. They only last 30k and are $$$ to replace.

Sako - this isnt the dealer - this is a pic of the exact car that I found online.

both are 08's...I actually dont mind the prefacelift amg look but I could always just get the facelift bumper...IF I did go with the car

Yes, I will check that. I see prices vary from 600-900 per rotor which isnt too bad and pads are same price as my 08.

I checked other parts also, alternator, starter, etc and all prices are fairly inexpensive....looks like the brake system (rotors) are the most expensive thing to replace - minus tranny and engine

I've had numerous Euro sports cars but never one that eats brakes like the S63. I'm at the wear indicators at 26k miles. At $300 a set ( like my previous E55 ) not an issue. At $1600 a set it just annoys me.

Well you are all set! Hopefully the maintenance is good to go. I hope you come back with the s63 if everything is good. Your wife won't notice will she?

so an even trade for your 08 w 60k miles worth roughly 26ish? for an 08 s63 w 63k miles worth roughly 32-35ish. If the car is as clean or cleaner than yours I would say no brainer do it. Plus a free warranty?

2015 S550
One thing is for certain....the selling dealer isn't throwing in a bumper to bumper warranty for free on an S63. Any warranty will be included in the mark-up of the car. And I'm also certain that the dealer likely cannot get a bumper-to-bumper warranty for that car, especially at that age and mileage. If there is one even available to the dealer, it is likely some plebian named components policy that wouldn't cover the items you would really need a warranty for....such as all of the electronics in the car & ABC system.

He's likely assuming that he can purchase some cheap policy as if he was selling a used Honda or Toyota....and has no clue that the S63 is almost impossible to find an aftermarket warranty for.

Always a great idea to transform the look of your high end S-class AMG into a C class by swapping in the C styled grille and removing the hood ornament.

Nice upgrade on the rims to the face-lifted version. Let us know what kind of deal they're willing to give you on your trade-in and price of their car. I'd also like to hear more about the great bumper-to-bumper they are throwing in for free.

Well, that was a quick no deal. They neglected to say the owner was a smoker...and I mean they must have been a HEAVY smoker because as soon as I opened the door it wreaked of smoke, I said "Sorry, can't do a smokers car" and that was that.

I guess the S550 is sticking around - maybe it was for the better.

Ok - Go back there and find out where the clear sidemarkers came from. Those may be the first and only set I've ever seen.

For the best, mainly because that stuff about having a customer looking for a black S550 is nonsense. That's designed to give you the false belief that they'll put top dollar on the trade. There's no buyer. Black/black S550s are the most common 221 by a mile. Dave was right on the "warranty" too. I've never found a 3rd party warranty company that will touch am AMG car at any mileage, much less pushing 70k.

I had that same exact itch a few months back for an 09 S63 and oddly enough was also a smoker's car. My S550 was so much nicer.

Get a newer 550 with the twin turbo engine for mid 40's(2012) spend 1k on a tune and you'll be faster than the older 63's.

Yeah, I agree. I'm glad I still have my car actually and If I do make an upgrade it might as well be to a 2010+. I'm heading down to Miami in a few hours...hopefully I don't see anything down there to buy. :-)

TT engine started in 2012. I had about a week of seat time in a 12' last month with tune. Power band is just silly with the tune
Good luck
