Transfer case fluid
Does the transfer case of a 4Matic use the fluid of the transmission or it has it own fluid. I want to change the fluid but want to make sure.

Is the transfer case fluid change a recommended service? I've not seen it, but would make sense.... would not be same fluid BTW.

The transfer case in the 4matic feeds from the tranny in our 722.9 so need to do transfer case fluid. I had an ml350 with the other style transfer case that had its own fluid which was just mercedes tranny fluid

Yes, S550 has 722.96 tranny.
