It was LOUD...I am now thinking something was not right with it. When you would step on the gas it sounded like - the first thing that comes to mind is : someone beating on pillows or hitting pillows really hard until you let off of the gas. Almost as if it just had headers on...but when idle it was fine. I wish I would have recorded it. I didnt think it was normal because there is no way anyone would buy a car that sounded like that. They insisted it was normal but I am 100% sure it isnt.
I asked him to step on the gas while I was outside and you could only hear it inside..I had him do it with the hood open and closed while I was standing on the outside. I went to the back of the car and it has a nice low rumble but the sound was still only head from inside.
Now that I think about, I bet there was something wrong with the turbos...since they only spool up once you get on the gas correct? it was definitely FAST. I mean I chirped the tires a few times and I didnt even step on the gas that hard but I guess i'm not used to driving a s600 either.

It's almost impossible to hear the turbos in the S600. If you had it in "S", it is quite easy to chirp the tires even under light acceleration....especially if the car has summer tires and the temps are still chilly. In "C", the trans starts in 2nd gear from a stop, which is ideal for comfortable acceleration and driving on slick roads. I pretty much always leave mine in "C", as it makes the ride even more compliant over bumps in the road.
In "S" mode....and cruising at 60 mph, if you punch the gas you can get the traction light to blink. That's how much torque these cars have. 612 lb/ft starting at just 1800 rpm's is a lot of grunt.
I'd find another one to drive if I were you....hopefully one that doesn't have any mods so you can get the real S600 experience.

Just had a conversation with the wife. So it's a 100% go to get a new car but I have to stick to around 35k....ish. :-) I'm not as concerned with trading my car or selling it before I get the new one because I know I'll be able to sell it afterwards if I don't get a good trade in amount for it.
It's hard to say which is better the S63 Vs the S600. I am being patient but ideally I would like to find something within the next 10 days before I leave for Cozumel. I know that will be hard to accomplish but I don't think it's impossible.
Dave has been extremely helpful regarding the S600, does anyone else who actually has the S600 have any input or anyone who has the S63?
I want something with all of the bells and whistles but also won't kill me with expenses for maint. No warranty available from anyone for the amg vs warranty for the s600, big expense for the rotors on the s63 vs not on the s600.

If a smoother, quieter ride loaded to the hilt with amenities is something you desire, especially with keeping things happy on the home front, then I'd advise going with the S600. If you're looking for a car to fly around the track every weekend, and your wife doesn't mind the harsher ride, louder exhaust, and higher maintenance bills for tires & brakes, then the S63 would be the better choice.
Or you can just keep what you have as it seems your wife doesn't mind your current car.

The s550 seems plenty fast to me. especially for the size. If you want to switch it up a bit tint the windows and swap on a new set of rims. Usually works for me.

These S600's sure do sell quick, especially the low mileage ones. Everywhere I call, SOLD, SOLD, SOLD.
I guess I just need to have patience.
Yes, I could keep what I have....it's a wonderful car. If I do that then I am going to look for a used 2009-2010 Hummer H2 and another boat. 2 complete opposite ends of the spectrum but I'd prefer to have a nice S600 and get a warranty.

Well, I basically have a buyer for my car so it's pretty much confirmed I have to get a new car now.
I am 75% sure it's going to be an S600 but wow, I love this interior on this S63 and with the tv's etc. but the miles are a little high.

That is a nicely optioned S63....especially with the back seat package, video monitors, ABC, and night vision. But that car still doesn't have all of the equipment that you get standard on the S600....especially the beautiful leather wrapped dash & doors. You'll also have to keep a huge reserve fund as you'd likely be looking at tons of maintenance on an AMG with those miles, not to mention the items that start to break at that mileage. No warranty possible on that car too.

So, what are your thoughts about this designo s600? If the seller was to take 22k cash, and then I'd have a repair/maint fund of about 15k. I love the look of the interior and I usually only like black interiors and sometimes tan.
Only downfall is i'd have to fly down to FL after just coming back from there last week and then I could put it on the autotrain to bring it back - 17hours.
Worth it with the plan above or just go with a low mileage one? Just throwing around ideas. I do like the interior of the 08's also.

Ask when/if the coil packs have been replaced. Both of mine went between 90 and 100K. It's at least 1500 a side (going with aftermarket parts at an independent), so if they aren't done, that's 3K of your repair fund already spent.

The last maint. on the carfax shows at 72k miles at the dealer oil change, inspection, etc. I guess it would be about time for the coil packs I am assuming. It also needs rear tires soon - calculated in to price.
Is the designo and excellent exterior/interior condition worth it to buy it at 22k and then do the maint or just buy a car with lower mileage but may not find the 08 or the designo interior for around 30-35k? I'm not worried about resale value as I plan on keeping the car and I am going to buy a pickup truck for a daily driver as we are always doing things in the yard with stones, mulch and picking up huge koi etc for our pond and that surely won't be going in my car and my wife ok'd that.
I feel like a kid at christmas!

I've priced both coil packs around 1600.00 total...labor probably another 2 hours so I could get it done for roughly 2100.00 or just do it myself as it doesn't look too difficult, besides being very careful.

Did both of mine myself, not hard. Each took an afternoon. You will definitely get charged more than two hours labor though. If you do it yourself, you should check/change the spark plugs while you are in there.
As someone who bought a relatively inexpensive 600 (2007 CL not S) I would say go for it, if the car moves you. You will certainly end up spending the extra cash on repairs, but that's what it's there for. I got a car with similar mileage and condition in November, and I've spent about 5k so far on repairs and new tires.

There is one with 18k miles on it that I like but it doesn't have night vision - as useless as it may be I wouldn't buy it because why buy an S600 with missing options..if that was an option? I thought it would have been standard.

...and then there is this 07 S65....38k but has 97k miles. Im sure this would be a repair nightmare. :-(

Honestly, I'd jump all over the 18k mileage car if I were you. Night Vision is nothing but a novelty that you'll likely never use. I believe that was the car that was customer ordered and has the AMG body moldings, right? You can likely negotiate the price by $2k and get yourself an almost new condition S600 for dirt cheap. Plus you can get a warranty for a good price on that one. If you keep that car at least a few years, the over all cost will likely be less than the 90k mile car, plus much higher resale value. You're likely looking at a heap of trouble in the near future with the high mileage S600.
