Noooo. I've heard my 2010 car with the OEM mufflers replaced with an aftermarket quad exhaust and even that was obnoxiously loud. I had the shop take out the X pipe and splice in two in-line resonators to get the sound right. A personal choice of course but I'd recommend that unless someone wants to completely change the character of their car not to do a delete

If you're looking for that balance of some audible, real V8 rumble that disappears at cruising speed (north of 3rd) I'd recommend the Becker axle back exhaust and a pair of "glass pack" inline resonators. I also find myself using the paddle shifters. A two tap downshift sounds amazing and you hear those cool V8 burbles as you come out of the throttle.
I've gotten a lot of compliments on it, the best being from the MB techs and Service Advisors who are typically very critical of aftermarket stuff.

My dealer had a used 09 S63 they let me play with so I had a benchmark for the sound I was looking for. It's not an exact match in terms of tone and prominence but it's very close. In the 63, there's a constant deep undertone at pretty much any speed that I didn't want and we tuned that out for the most part. At idle the 63 sounds more authoritative. I love the mod...it plays perfectly to the AMG sport body kit and wheels without being overwhelming.

The X pipe is just forward of the rear axle and takes the two outputs from the exhaust headers and sends it back out to the mufflers. It's about 3' long. The shop just cut it out then made two straight runs to the mufflers, splicing the resonators into the straight pipes in the process.

Ha! I don't think we're getting a video. Straight piping an S is crazy. Yes, the NA 5.5 roars like hell but the soundtrack doesn't go with the movie. Plus when you pull from a stop the engine is screaming like a dragster while the car ambles along getting up to 7th. It looks ridiculous. It'll also drone horribly at highway speed and there's no escape.
On the other hand when you see an S in AMG trim it looks like it should make a little noise to back up the cosmetics. I'm not a fan of loud generally (the S63 was louder than I'd want in a DD)

Didn't hear mine straight piped just with the Beckers and that was way too loud. Safe to presume no mufflers at all would be louder than that. I can't imagine anyone would do that to their S Class.
The Becker muffs are about 1/4 the size of OEM and very little baffling. Quality is ok but not great. The packaging strongly suggests a European origin but they're from Asia. Also ZERO support, other than send them back and pay a restocking fee if your shop can't get them on. The tips look nice though. That kit plus the inline resonators seemed to be the sweet spot for the sound quality and volume.
Don't forget an S63 facelift rear bumper clone kit. It needs paint but it'll save you a bunch in time and give you a cleaner install.

I want to hear the v12 with the stock exhaust but with the electric turndowns. Everything I read says even removing the resonators on the V12 will still be super quiet...I just want it loud for a minute when I feel like it but not constant which is why I was thinking about that electric one. I love that formula 1 sound like in that video of the S600...just my opinion but like I said, just when I want the sound.

Im telling you, give Zury fabrication a call, have them make you a downpipes with highflow cats (you wont belive the price... Trust me, compare to other vendors like $1500-2500!!!)
Call logic tuning to have it remap with downpipes and turn off the CEL for O2 just incase.

Car is in the shop, will have to wait about 2 more weeks.
Sorry guys! It's a nice deep rumble sound (NO DRONE) but the gas mileage went down too much. I'm averaging 9 mpg city since I did it.
I'll post a video before I put it back to stock or replace the mufflers with something else.
