2008 S550 transmission shifting issues

Hey guys,

I have a 2008 S550 with about 120,000 miles on it. I bought it with 83k miles on it and did not get any service history on the car.

The car has been great besides changing motor/transmission mounts often(spirited driver) and one air strut. My biggest concern has been my transmission. For about 10k miles now i've been noticing rough shifts and recently i've noticed the car slipping into 2nd and 3rd gear, more exaggerated when the car is loaded and if i'm driving on an incline.

My question and concern here is...if I was to do a transmission service, am I opening up a can of worms for myself or are the chances my shifting issues will going away higher than other cars?

Any feedback from you guys that have experience will help.

Sounds like the lower pressure plate on transmission is starting to fail. New transmission installed at dealer: $6,000 at the lowest. I would trade the car in for a later W221

A local merc tranny specialist swaps it for under $3k with the torque converter. 2 year warranty and unlimited miles.
